Glory Days (A Musical Audio Drama)

Oddly enough, life turned us around so we could find each other.” When four best friends reunite a year after graduating high school, they learn they have each changed in their time apart and realize sometimes you cant go back to the good ole glory days. Can their friendship survive these changes?
COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on our nation, and shelter-at-home has never been more important. The cast of this production of Glory Days has, therefore, teamed up to make what would have been their staged musical available to the public in the form of an audio drama. Using iPhones, Zoom, and a little sound editing software, these four actors have joined their talents together from their various corners of the country to bring you musical entertainment.

Using Zoom to interface, the cast of Glory Days recorded all of the book scenes over the course of two days. This required them to know their character arcs and beats well enough that they could jump from scene to scene and know exactly what their objectives were and what kinds of tactics they would use throughout. Listening was essential. Although they could see each other’s reactions, the actors were challenged to carefully listen to one another so they could respond the way their characters needed to.
Putting It Together
The final step was editing all of the recordings together to create a finished product. This entailed carefully combing the takes to find the ones with the right intentions, the clearest sounds, and the best pitches that would work together to tell this story, and then splicing, deleting, and cleaning them up using Audacity as a sound editing software. The result was Glory Days - A Musical Audio Drama! Enjoy!
No special microphones were used for this! The guys utilized their iPhones built-in mics and occasionally some headphone mics. The music was transcribed into accompaniment tracks using Finale notation music software and uploaded to a Box folder for the actors. Because of spotty Internet and occasional lag problems with Zoom, all songs had to be individually recorded - including group numbers. The actors would play the accompaniment track through their end and record it on Zoom so it could be music directed as needed. Once again, the cast was challenged to listen to each other and blend as they navigated tight harmonies.
