Yale Rep Presents The 13th Annual Dwight/Edgewood Project

Yale Repertory Theatre and Yale School of Drama presents the 13th annual DWIGHT/EDGEWOOD PROJECT(D/EP):  ten original one-act plays written by Troup Magnet Academy Middle School Students for two performances only on June 20 and June 21 at 7:00pm at the Off-Broadway Theatre (41 York Street, New Haven). Admission is free, seating is limited and reservations are recommended.

D/EP pairs ten students from Troup Magnet Academy Middle School, who were selected by their principal, Richard Kaliszewski, for their writing skills, with mentors from Yale School of Drama.  During the month of June, the students work one-on-one with their mentors and learn about theatre and playwriting through interactive games and writing exercises. Each Troup student writes an original one-act play which is designed, directed, and performed by the same Yale School of Drama artists who have served as teachers and mentors to the young playwrights.

The program on Friday, June 20 features: Just a Country Bug Falling for a New York Love by seventh-grader Roshanna Bobb-Gordon; Pharoah Todge by sixth-grader Jason Boyd; No Luck by seventh-grader Sameir Rankins*; Stick to What You Say by sixth-grader Janiris Corretger*; and Hard Life Love by sixth-grader Vontresse Goldfarb.

The program on Saturday, June 21 features: Learning About Someone Else, Including Yourself by seventh-grader Shanaya McRae; The Dream by sixth-grader Ricky Steele; The Wishes Collide by sixth-grader Huey Miles; La Quinceañera by seventh-grader Cynthia Herrera*; and The Weirdest Love by seventh-grader Angel Estrada*.

* Indicates students returning for their 2nd season.

Members of the staff of Dwight/Edgewood Project 2008 are Meghan Pressman (Managing Director); Alyssa Anderson (Associate Managing Director); Michael Walkup (Artistic Associate); Paul Carey (Director); Christopher Mirto (Director); Liz Groth, Heidi Leigh Hanson, Melissa Trn (Associate Production Designers); Jesse Belsky (Lighting Designer); Phillip Owen (Sound Designer and Composer); Aurélia Fisher (Stage Manager); Tom Delgado (Production Manager/Technical Director); NYU student Sydney Bailey (Intern) and past D/EP playwrights, eleventh grader Leo Chiquillo and ninth grader Lyndsay Cromwell (Apprentices). Playwriting Mentors and performers are Kevin Daniels, Joby Earle, Lauren Feldman, Brian Hastert Barret O'Brien, Katie O'Neill, Erik Pearson, Jorge Rodriguez (Yale Presidential Fellow), Kim Rosenstock, and Reese Smith. Megan Sandberg-Zakian, former Artistic Associate Director of the 52nd Street Project, which has served as a model for developing D/EP, is the resident teaching artist.
