THE SHARDS Cast Compete for Camera Time on '80s Dance Show in New Scene
The clip pulls its central clique into a competitive, camera-hungry corner of their 1980s world.
FX released a new scene from THE SHARDS that pits several of its central characters against one another for airtime on Dance Off!, a fictional '80s dance show within the series. Bret, played by Igby Rigney, Susan, played by Kaia Gerber, Debbie, played by Hayes Warner, Robert, played by Homer Gere, and Cha Cha, played by Bella Valdes, all vie for camera attention, while Thom, played by Graham Campbell, is shown struggling to find his footing on the dance floor.
The scene comes from the fifth episode of THE SHARDS, a drama executive produced by Ryan Murphy and adapted from the bestselling novel by Bret Easton Ellis. Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the series follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school navigating identity, jealousy and obsession, with a darker undercurrent running beneath their social world. Thom and Robert have previously clashed on screen, including a physical altercation at a house party that played out in front of Susan and their classmates.
The Dance Off! setting offers a lighter backdrop compared to earlier moments in the series, which has increasingly leaned into tension among the tightly knit friend group. That tension was on display in a previous scene in which Thom voiced suspicions about Robert's intentions toward Susan while the two practiced for the same dance show.
The new clip continues FX's episode-by-episode rollout of scenes from THE SHARDS, following a scene in which Thom confided his fears about Robert to Bret during an earlier rehearsal for the same competition.
