Shanley's Defiance to End Limited Run on June 4

The Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere production of John Patrick Shanley's Defiance begins its final weekend of performances tonight at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). The production will play its final performance on Sunday, June 4 after playing 21 preview performances and 115 regular performances.

The production, which opened Tuesday, February 28, is directed by Doug Hughes.  It was extended twice before through April 30th and May 7th.

Directed by Tony Award-winner Doug Hughes, the cast features Chris Bauer, Chris Chalk, Margaret Colin, Stephen Lang, Trevor Long and Jeremy Strong.

Defiance "is set on a United States Marine Corps base in North Carolina in 1971. Two officers, one black (Chalk) and one white (Lang), are on a collision course over race, women, and the high cost of doing the right thing," state press notes. "The play is about power, love, and responsibility - who has it, who wants it, and who deserves it." Playwright Shanley and director Hughes previously collaborated on Doubt, which picked up the 2005 Tony Award for Best Play, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Doubt and Defiance are the first two plays of an "intended trilogy" by Shanley.

The performance schedule for Defiance is: Tuesday through Saturday at 8:00 PM, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 PM, and Sunday evening performances at 7:00 PM.
