Wednesday evening, September 9th, the Museum of the City of New York released "The New York City 400," a list of 400 movers and shakers since New York City's founding -- from politics, the arts, business, sports, and science.

Playwright Neil Simon appears on the list of notable individuals who have helped define
New York City over the past four centuries. Others named among "The New York City 400" are Woody Allen, Mayor Bloomberg, Alexander Hamilton, Ethel Merman, Jerry Seinfeld, Ian Schrager, Spike Lee, Mel Brooks, Larry Kramer, Robert Murdoch, Ralph Lauren, and Donald Trump.

Neil Simon is among the world's most successful playwrights. He has had countless plays and screenplays produced, and has received more Academy and Tony Award nominations than any other writer. He is the only playwright to have had four Broadway productions running simultaneously. The Odd Couple (1965), Biloxi Blues (1985) and Lost in Yonkers (1991) garnered him Tony Awards for Best Play. Lost in Yonkers also received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. America's stages continue to be invigorated by his stories and iconic characters, and by his ability to create humor from the lives and troubles of everyday people.

Neil Simon will be represented on Broadway this season with The Neil Simon Plays, all new productions of his hit plays Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound, directed by David Cromer and starring Laurie Metcalf.
