Masterworks Broadway has announced the kick-off of Masterworks Broadway Podcast Theatre, a series of podcasts created to enhance and support its CD releases for listeners and fans.

Beginning with two recent releases, the Chicago 10th Anniversary Edition CD/DVD box set and the new Broadway cast recording of A Chorus Line, the podcasts, which "offer great additional entertainment and insight to these recordings,," according to press materials, will be available through a variety of outlets.   Currently, the podcasts are available on Apple iTunes, MasterworksBroadway.com and the official websites for the two musicals: ChicagoTheMusical.com">ChicagoTheMusical.com and AChorusLine.com.

"Recognizing that the internet is a prime source of information and entertainment, Masterworks Broadway has taken to this arena, providing listeners with a more intimate look into these two beloved shows.  'Behind the scenes' segments along with interviews from the creative teams and stars offer a truly unique experience for the audience, beyond the music that can be enjoyed time and again on the CDs.  The podcasts give a modern twist to a retro-style radio show format, for an intimate 'infotainment' type package."

The Chicago podcasts feature interviews with the revival's director Walter Bobbie, choreographer & original "Roxie" in the 1996 production Ann Reinking, original "Velma" Bebe Neuwirth, music director Rob Fisher and composer John Kander.  The release of the Chicago CD/DVD Box Set (October 3, 2006) coincides with the 10th Anniversary of the musical revival sensation.

The A Chorus Line podcasts feature new interviews from the current Broadway production, including testimonials from original A Chorus Line co-choreographer and current director Bob Avian, original star and current choreographer Baayork Lee, musical orchestrator Jonathan Tunick , and stars Michael Berresse ("Zack") and Charlotte D'Amboise ("Cassie").  The new Broadway cast recording was released on October 10, 2006.

The Masterworks Broadway Podcast Theatre series is available for free download on the aforementioned websites.

The recent mergers of Sony and BMG combined the Sony Classical/Columbia Masterworks and RCA Victor labels, leading to the formation of Masterworks Broadway, which houses one of the most formidable catalogues of cast albums anywhere, with recent titles such as Tony winner Avenue Q, and Grammy-award winners The Producers and Hairspray, as well as the treasured original cast recordings of West Side Story, A Chorus Line, Sweeney Todd, Company and Sunday In The Park With George , among many others.
