Mark Brokaw Memorial To Be Hosted By Lucille Lortel Theatre
This tribute will feature appearances by Douglas Carter Beane, Santino Fontana, Robyn Goodman, David Grimm, Kenneth Lonergan and more.
On Monday, May 11, 2026, the Lucille Lortel Theatre, located at 121 Christopher Street, will host a celebration of the life and career of award-winning stage director Mark Brokaw. Brokaw passed away in June 2025 after battling cancer.
This tribute will feature appearances by Douglas Carter Beane, Santino Fontana, Robyn Goodman, David Grimm, Kenneth Lonergan, Mary-Louise Parker, Sam Pinkleton, Amy Ryan, and Paula Vogel, among others.
The event will begin at 4 PM and is open to the public on a first-come, first-seated basis.
About Mark Brokaw
Mark Brokaw (1958 – 2025) was born and raised in Aledo, Illinois. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois (Champagne/Urbana) and the Yale School of Drama. He directed works by writers such as Alan Alda, Lynda Barry, Douglas Carter Beane, Erik Bogosian, Charles Busch, Jenny Giering, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Adam Gwon, Karen Hartman, Isamil Khalidi, Lisa Kron, Kenneth Lonergan, Lisa Loomer, Craig Lucas, Ken Ludwig, Patrick Marber, Robert Schekkan, Nicky Silver, Simon Stephen, Paula Vogel, Naomi Wallace and Wendy Wasserstein. His work was seen on Broadway, off Broadway. in institutional theatres across the US, in the UK, Ireland and Australia at such places as the Vineyard Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage, Lincoln Center Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, Roundabout Theatre Company, New York Shakespeare Festival, Signature Theatre, Yale Repertory Theatre, Seattle Rep., Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Studio Arena Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Asolo Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Huntington Theatre, Hartford Stage, Sydney Opera House, The Donmar Warehouse, The Gate Theater and the Menier Chocolate Factory. From 2009 through 2017, Mark was the Artistic Director of Yale Institute for Music Theatre. Mark was a Drama League Fellow, an SDC Executive Board member, an SDC Foundation Trustee and from its inception, a mentor with TDF Open Doors.
