Ricki Lake, Camryn Manheim, Steven Weber and other stars of stage, TV and screen will be featured in a staged reading of the concept musical Working, which will be presented on Monday, September 26th in LA as the inaugural show of Reprise! Broadway's Best's Marvelous Musical Mondays series.  The show will be performed at UCLA's Freud Playhouse.

In addition to Lake (the films Hairspray, Serial Mom, "The Ricki Lake Show," "The King of Queens"), Manheim ("The Practice," the film Happiness) and Weber ("Wings," The Producers), Working will star Kathy Najimy (Sister Act, Hocus Pocus, "Veronica's Closet"), Orson Bean (Being John Malkovich, "Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman," Ilya Darling, Subways Are for Sleeping on Broadway), Wilson Cruz (Rent), Dan Finnerty (The Terminal, The Wedding Planner), Chris Fitzgerald (Wicked, Amour), Armelia McQueen (Ain't Misbehavin' on Broadway, Bulworth, Ghost).

Working is based on a book by Studs Turkel, in which he interviewed a number of American workers from all walks of life.  In the musical, these workers--including a housewife, millworker, schoolteacher, corporate executive, sailor and fireman--bring their hopes, dreams and fears to life through songs by an array of composers and lyricists.  Working features songs by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz and James Taylor.

David Lee and Kevin Chamberlin (Seussical, Dirty Blonde) will helm the Reprise! staging, while Michael Orland will handle the musical direction.

Working opened at the 46th Street Theatre on May 14th, 1978 with a cast that included Rex Everhart, Bob Gunton, Patti LuPone, Joe Mantegna, Lenora Nemetz and Lynne Thigpen.  It was directed by Schwartz and choreographed by Onna White.  Despite only having lasted for 12 previews and 24 performances, Working has gained a cult following and is frequently produced by high school, college and regional theatres.
