John W. Engeman Theater Announces the Creative Team for THE SOUND OF MUSIC

The John W. Engeman Theater is proud to announce the creative team for their upcoming production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, which begins previews on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 8:00pm and officially opens on November 20, 2010 at 8:00pm. THE SOUND OF MUSIC will run until January 16, 2011.

Rodgers and Hammerstein'sTHE SOUND OF MUSIC, based on the true memoirs of Maria Von Trapp's book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, is the winner of five Tony Awards including Best Musical. This classic musical features one of the most family-friendly and popular scores in Broadway history. With songs such as My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, So Long, Farewell, and Climb Ev'ry Mountain, it is the perfect show to share with the entire family during the holiday season.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC is produced for the John W. Engeman Theater by RICHARD T. DOLCE, the theater's Producing Artistic Director.

The Director is Paul Stancato an award-winning director/choreographer. Broadway/National Tours include Disney's The Lion King (Resident Director, 2008 Helen Hayes nom., Best Touring Musical), The Wedding Singer (Broadway, Asst. to Rob Ashford, Tony noms. Best Musical, Best Choreography; First National Tour, Director). Other Directing/Choreographing credits include: Crazy For You, Godspell, Guys and Dolls, Zombies from the Beyond, Rockshow and Heart Rising (World Prem.), and Einstein's Dreams (Best Direction Award NY Fringe, NY Prem.)

The Choreographer is Vic Dimonda who is currently the Associate Artistic Director for the John W. Engeman Theater, where he directed and choreographed the inaugural production of Smokey Joe's Cafe. He is also a faculty member of The Ailey School and The Ailey Extension, and was an artist in residence for the Metropolitan Opera Guild

Musical Director, Mike Pettry, is a New York based composer/lyricist and musician. In 2007 he won the Jonathan Larson Award. Some musicals he has written are The Time Travelers Convention, Long Distance, World of Heroes, Flipside (Frederick Loewe Award).

The Casting Director is STEPHEN DeANGELIS who has been a member of the John W. Engeman Theater since its inception and has cast all of the main stage productions as well as the ongoing Broadway Concert Series. Stephen is on staff at Grey NYC having cast over 2,200 network television and radio commercials.

The Design Team includes: Jonathan W. Collins (Scenic Designer) who recently designed Together This Time directed by TRoy Miller at the Fringe Festival, and The Importance of Being Earnest & As You Like It in rep at the Gene Frankel Theater; JANELL BERTÉ (Costume Designer) credits include Trav'lin,(NYMF '10 ) directed by Paul Stancato, and Civil War Voices (Midtown International Theater Festival '10) directed by Dennis Courtney, winner of 6 awards including best of show and outstanding costume design; Christopher Ash (Lighting Designer) has designed in Chicago, Los Angeles, and NY, as well as other regional companies. In 2008 he designed Troia for Anadolu Atesi in Istanbul, Turkey. He received a Chicago After Dark award for lighting The Sweet Smell of Success, a Jeff nomination for lighting Wedding Play; and Mark Adam Rampmeyer (Hair and Wig Designer) who recently completed work on the Broadway revival of West Side Story. Mark joins the John W. Engeman Theater this season in a full time role as Artistic Administrator in addition to his design responsibilities.

The Production Manager is MICHAEL J. LESLIE. The Production Stage Manager is CJ LaROCHE.

Press Opening is Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 8:00 pm

THE SOUND OF MUSIC will play the following performance schedule: Thursdays at 8:00 p.m., Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 3:00 p.m., Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

IN ADDITION, there will be special matinees on: Friday, November 26 at 3:00pm, Wednesday, December 29 at 3:00pm and Thursday, December 30 at 3:00pm.

ALSO there will performances on Sunday evenings at 7:00pm, starting December 5 andperformances on Wednesday evenings at 8:00pm, starting December 15.
