Leading NYC arts education nonprofit Inside Broadway will be bringing its after-school theater program to more than 40 schools in the NYC Public School system in 2017-2018 (starting in October & November in several schools, with other schools beginning in January & February 2018).

Inside Broadway's exciting and enriching arts education programs will reach approximately 75,000 students in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens & The Bronx this year; their special after-school Musical Theater Workshop Program offers students to chance to work with an Inside Broadway teaching artist & musical director to rehearse & present an original musical.

This year's musical is NYC Musical Mystery Melodies: using songs from Broadway, students will embark on a journey through New York City to discover more about the city and their borough.

The after-school program meets twice a week for 25 sessions & culminates with a final performance for the school & community (final performances begin in in January 2018 thru May 2018). In NYC Musical Mystery Melodies, the Evil Doctor So-and-So has stolen the Statue of Liberty and the Secret Agent Society must find her within 24 hours for the Big Apple Expo! Reporter Corey O. Graph and a team of news anchors provide up-to-the-minute news reports which only heighten the search! Clues and a local history lesson are given in each borough as to where Lady Liberty might be found. Through song, dance, collaboration and finding answers to the clues, everyone does their best to find the Statue of Liberty and save the day!

During the duration of the program, students will also work with a professional scenic designer & makeup artist to create a backdrop & learn about theatrical make up. The program is funded by the New York City Council through the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs under the Council's C.A.S.A (Cultural After-School Adventures) Initiative. The first C.A.S.A. school groups begin in October with final performances beginning in January & February; additional school groups begin in November, January, February & March 2018 with final performances in the spring.

NYC Council Members whose schools/districts will get the after-school program are: James Vacca, Annabel Palma, Vincent Gentile, Daniel Garodnick, Andy King, Daniel Dromm, Elizabeth Crowley, Rafael Espinal, Carlos Menchaca, Peter Koo, Bill Perkins, Barry Grodenchik, Corey Johnson, Rory Lancman, Karen Koslowitz, Alan Maisel, Mark Treyger, Andrew Cohen, Costa Constantinides & Helen Rosenthal.

Inside Broadway was established in 1982 by Michael Presser. Today, it reaches over 70,000 New York City students in over 100 public schools each year and develops and produces Equity musical productions that tour to schools as well as a wide range of educational programs that allow participants to interact with professionals in the field and experience theatre hands-on in the classroom. Programs of Inside Broadway are funded by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, New York City Council, New York City Department of Education, and numerous foundations and individuals.
