IT Awards Extends Applications Deadline to May 15

The IT Awards (New York Innovative Theatre Awards), the organization dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, is gearing up for its exciting 2nd Annual Awards Show, sponsored by Back Stage. The evening is scheduled for September 18th. The Honorary Awards Committee has also extended its applications deadline to May 15th.

"The honorary awards are an intrinsic part of our program," said Jason Bowcutt, co-founder of the IT Awards. "They offer us the opportunity to recognize those who have given so much to fostering the Off-Off-Broadway community."

"The honorary awards represent a public celebration and peer acknowledgement of the past, present, and future of Off-Off-Broadway," says Awards Committee Co-chair Leonard Jacobs, National Theatre Editor of Back Stage. "The veterans, visionaries, and newcomers who vie for these honors believe, as we do, that Off-Off-Broadway firmly remains the vanguard of the Modern American Theatre."

The 3 Honorary Awards include:

--The Artistic Achievement Award, presented to an individual who has made a significant artistic contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community;

--The Stewardship Award, presented to an individual or organization demonstrating a significant contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community through service, support and leadership.

--The Caffe Cino Fellowship Award, presented to an Off-Off-Broadway theatre company that consistently produces outstanding work. This award also includes a grant ($1,000-$5,000) to be used toward an Off-Off-Broadway production.

The IT Awards are given annually to honor individuals and organizations who have achieved artistic excellence in Off-Off-Broadway theatre. The New York IT Awards recognizes the unique and essential role Off-Off-Broadway plays in contributing to American and global culture, and believes that publicly recognizing excellence in Off-Off-Broadway theatre will expand audience awareness and appreciation of the full New York theatre experience.
