Award Winning Short LACRIMOSA Headed to SHORTSTV

Lacrimosa, an award-winning short film directed and co-written by Tanja Mairitsch, has been picked up by SHORTSTV. The mesmerizing film tells the story of a young girl named Mila who wakes up in an unknown world full of mysteries. On her journey through the ever-changing surreal landscapes she meets her lost love, Theo. As they interact, Mila is forced to learn that love also means to let go.

Among the highlights of the film are the underwater cinematography, metaphorically the expansive tear manifesting stunning imagery that draws the audience in on a very personal and shattering journey. Water is a common symbol of the unconscious. Every image and every scene in Lacrimosa mirrors Mila's inner state and condition. Both actors had special diving lessons in a time span of 8 months to prepare for the shoot and the camera team specialized in underwater film production.

The Oscar qualified film boasts the powerful collaboration of Director Mairitsch and DP Petra Korner and stars Saskia Rosendahl, who is currently starring in Never Look Away directed by Academy Award winning Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others). Lacrimosa is produced by Viktor Perdula and Klaus Schiebel, and the mesmerizing score is composed by Elia Cmiral. Lacrimosa has been shown around the world at multiple international film festivals including the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Hollyshorts Film Festival, and Sitges International Film Festival.

"I enjoy exploring things that have not been done before. The underwater world is very different than THE ONE we move in, it works with different rules and conveys different feelings. It offers new forms of expression," says Mairitsch. "I decided to explore this quite untouched realm and tell a story that motivates the use of underwater cinematography. When you think of each tiny tear drop being a microcosm of human experience there is a lot of inspiration, a lot of story to pull from there. We came up with such story - the story of a tear."

While a student at AFI, Mairitsch was awarded with the prestigious Mary Pickford Scholarship for Outstanding Achievements in film directing and the AFI Richard P. Rogers Spirit of Excellence Award. Her thesis film Fueling the Fire won the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Student Film Award. The film went on to win 16 "Best Short Film" or "Best Director" awards and screened at over 30 international film festivals. Fueling the Fire received an exclusive broadcast deal with HBO/CINEMAX and was also released on DVD. Tanja was a finalist at the Chrysler Million Dollar Film Competition organized by Universal Pictures, Chrysler and Hypnotic.

Korner obtained her MFA in Cinematography from the prestigious AFI. The feature films she has shot include: The Wackness starring Sir Ben Kingsley, Gregor Jordan's The Informers starring Kim Basinger, Billy-Bob Thornton, and Winona Ryder and iconic horror-film director Wes Craven's My Soul To Take. Four of her feature films have been in competition at the Sundance Film Festival. For her achievement in cinematography, Korner was also awarded with the Kodak Vision Award at the WIF Awards in Hollywood, next to fellow honorees Elisabeth Banks, Holly Hunter, Jennifer Aniston and director Catherine Hardwicke. Her name was up first up on Variety's "Ten Cinematographers to Watch" list that year.
