Aarhus Teater Will Host FORSAMLINGSHUSET Gathering in June

Aarhus Teater will host a festive midsummer gathering in its Scala Foyer on Wednesday, June 17, inviting guests to an evening of conversation, music, and communal dining as part of its ongoing “Forsamlingshuset” series.

Running from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m., the event offers a relaxed and informal celebration of the traditional Danish midsummer holiday. While the customary bonfire will be absent, organizers promise a warm and welcoming atmosphere inside the theater’s Forsamlingshuset venue.

The evening will be led by host Simon Axø, a folk high school principal and public debater, who will guide the program featuring a live conversation with acclaimed journalist and author Niels Krause-Kjær. Guests will also join in singing seasonal songs and share a vegetarian meal included in the ticket price.

Krause-Kjær, known for his work with Jyllands-Posten and a long career at Danmarks Radio, has hosted programs such as Deadline and Krause på Tværs. He is also a bestselling novelist, with titles including Kongekabale and Mørkeland, both adapted for film. In 2025, he received the prestigious De Gyldne Laurbær award for Ude for uden, a work examining Denmark’s cultural transformation over two generations.

The event is part of Forsamlingshuset, Aarhus Teater’s initiative dedicated to fostering dialogue and community through shared cultural experiences. Inspired by Denmark’s long-standing tradition of assembly houses, the program brings together audiences for discussions, performances, and social gatherings centered on topics ranging from philosophy and science to contemporary issues.
