Due to explosive growth and demand, ArtWeek is expanding its footprint across Massachusetts. With continued support from the Highland Street Foundation and new partnerships with the Mass Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT), ArtWeek will host an annual spring festival that will offer hundreds of unique creative events. This exciting transition will allow for the further development of regional hubs where ArtWeek has already been gaining traction with an expanding showcase of the state's creative economy. The next ArtWeek festival will take place from April 27 - May 6, 2018.
"Since announcing ArtWeek's statewide expansion this spring, the enthusiastic response from arts and cultural organizations, businesses, artists, and state agencies has been very exciting," said Josiah A. Spaulding, Jr., President & CEO of the Boch Center. "With continued support from the Highland Street Foundation, new partnerships with the Mass Cultural Council and MOTT as Lead Champions, and with a growing network of regional organizations, we are well positioned to expand ArtWeek events in communities all across the Commonwealth."
Launched in 2013, ArtWeek has experienced explosive growth in recent years. To date, ArtWeek has worked with more than 900 organizations and partners, held more than 1,000 unique events, and expanded into 70+ neighborhoods and towns across Eastern Massachusetts, engaging an estimated 150,000 participants.
"ArtWeek's expansion is an exciting and unique opportunity to engage every community across the Commonwealth in participatory programming," said Anita Walker, Executive Director, Mass Cultural Council. "We're pleased to connect ArtWeek to our cultural partners in cities and towns across the Commonwealth to help foster new collaborations amongst our cultural organizations and creative communities."
"We are thrilled to support the expansion of ArtWeek programming across the Commonwealth," said Francois-Laurent Nivaud, executive director of Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. "ArtWeek creates new ways for visitors to discover the cultural richness of Massachusetts while interacting directly with local artists and arts communities."?
ArtWeek works to spotlight how the creative economy is thriving in Massachusetts by offering unique, hands-on, and affordable neighborhood-based events that provide increased access to art, culture, and creativity. Through community and artistic collaborations, this award-winning festival provides experiences in dance, folk and traditional arts, fashion, media arts, spoken-word, poetry, writing, contemporary visual arts, music, opera, theater, design, film, and more.
"It has been exciting to watch ArtWeek grow and engage more people every year," said Highland Street Foundation Executive Director, Blake Jordan. "We are thrilled with the statewide expansion, given the incredible arts and cultural resources we have across the Commonwealth."
