The stage version of THE EXORCIST, which first debuted at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles in 2012, will make its UK debut just in time for Halloween.

This adaptation of the classic novel and legendary film that terrified a whole generation will be brought to life, running 21 October - 5 November 2016, at Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Sean Mathias directs, with designs by Anna Fleischle and lighting by Tim Mitchell. The play is written by John Pielmeier, adapted from the novel by William Peter Blatty. Ben Sprecher, behind Broadway's scandal-ridden REBECCA, is producing the project.

No word yet on who will star in the UK production.

The play's official description reads: "There's something wrong with Regan. But don't worry, she's not alone...When the medical profession fails to provide answers to young Regan's strange symptoms her desperate mother Chris turns to a local priest for help. But before Father Damian can tackle what's before him, he must overcome his own shaken beliefs, as this fight is for more than just one girl's soul...Inspired by true events, the two time Oscar-winning film version of this story has terrified generations the world over since its release in 1973. Now this brand new stage production of The Exorcist is unleashed for the very first time in a uniquely theatrical experience."

The Geffen's world premiere presentation of THE EXORCIST featured Brooke Shields and Richard Chamberlain in the iconic roles of Chris MacNeil and Father Merrin, as well as Broadway actor David Wilson Barnes as the troubled young priest Father Damien Karras. Tony Award nominee Harry Groener took on the role of Chris's charismatic director Burke Dennings and UCLA School of Theater, and Film and Television graduate Emily Yetter played the young Regan MacNeil. The LA production was originally aimed for Broadway.
