Euan Morton to Star in Bay Street's The Who's Tommy

Tony Award-nominee Euan Morton will play the title role The Who's Tommy, presented at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, Long Island from June 13th through July 9th.

The musical, which will be directed at Bay Street by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, is based on the seminal concept album by British rock band The Who.  The Who's Tommy concerns a young boy who after having witnessed an act of violence (and losing his sight, hearing and ability to speak as a result), becomes a pinball wizard. No other casting has been announced for the production.

The show features music and lyrics by The Who's Pete Townsend as well as a book by Townsend and Des McAnuff, who won a Tony for directing the show's successful 1993-95 Broadway run (which featured Michael Cerveris, Norm Lewis, Sherie Rene Scott and Alice Ripley among its cast).

Morton, a native of Bo'ness, Scotland, is currently playing the title role in Tony Kushner and Maurice Sendak's Brundibar at the New Victory Theatre. He earned a Tony nomination and a Theatre World Award for his performance in Taboo; he also received an Olivier Award nomination for originating the role in London. Morton was recently seen at The Public Theater in Measure For Pleasure. "NewClear" is his recently released debut solo album.

Also included in Bay Street's 2006 season will be Ronald Harwood's Quartet, starring Kaye Ballard and Paul Hecht, and Crispin Whittell's comedy Darwin in Malibu.
