Theatreworks/NYC, the recently-formed Manhattan-based arm of Theatreworks/USA, who recently had a hit with the world premiere production of Walk Two Moons, continues the 2005-06 with the revival of the musical Junie B. Jones. The show will begin previews on Friday, November 4, open Wednesday, November 9th and run through December 3rd at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street).

Last season, Theatreworks' Junie B. Jones received Lucille Lortel Award nominations for Best Musical and Best Choreography. This expanded version of last season's show includes new music. Based on Barbara Park's hugely successful series of books, Junie B. Jones, with book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Zina Goldrich, is "a musical which follows the irrepressible Junie as she gets ready for the scary world of first grade, complete with new friends, new teacher and new glasses," according to press notes. The 90-minute musical, complete with live musicians, is recommended for audiences age 5 and up.

The six-person cast features Rusell Arden Koplin in the title role, with Randy Aaron, Jill Abramovitz, Michael McCoy and Adam Overett. The remaining cast will be announced shortly. The production is directed by Peter Flynn with choreography is by Devanand Janki. Scenic design is by Luke Hegel-Cantarella, with lighting by Jeff Croiter, costumes by Lora LaVon, and orchestrations by Jesse Vargas.

Theatreworks/USA, "America's foremost not-for-profit professional theatre for family audiences," announced in April the establishment of Theatreworks/NYC, giving the company a theatrical home in New York City for the first time in its 45-year history. Theatreworks/NYC is presenting four major shows in the 2005-2006 season at the Lortel, plus a special series for the youngest audiences-of music, puppets, magic, and more. Included in this special series is the Saturday, November 19, 10:30am, presentation of Retumba! Journey Through the Caribbean, featuring "island music and Caribbean rhythms."

Theatreworks/USA "continues to bring its award-winning shows to audiences across America, reaching four million people a year, many of whom have no other access to live, professional theatre. Since its inception in 1961, Theatreworks has entertained 80 million children and families."

Tickets for Junie B. Jones are $35 each, or $25 each for a group of four or more. For exact performance schedule and to order tickets, log onto www.twusa.com or call Ticket Central at 212/279-4200.
