A celebration to the end of a successful conference,
on the steps outside the Artscape Theatre

Artscape Theatre in partnership with Brouhaha International recently concluded a five day evaluation conference held at Artscape Theatre from the 23- 27 November 2015.

The conference brought together a group of youth from across the globe for an inspiring creative encounter to host the final stage of the capacity building project and to evaluate and share experiences from the project which celebrates the art as a contribution to youth empowerment.

Generously supported by the European Union, Brouhaha International is a professional arts organisation whose vision is to be a dynamic and innovative arts organisation that acts as a catalyst for change. Their mission is to champion diversity and participation within the arts developing and delivering work in local national and international contexts, meeting the needs of young people from low income neighbourhoods and culturally diverse backgrounds.

Marlene le Roux, CEO for Artscape Theatre comments on the success of the programme:

Artscape Theatre in collaboration with Brouhaha International recently sent 3 young choreographers to Liverpool and Netherlands for 8 to 10 weeks to form part of the European Voluntary Service where they engaged with youth groups and organisations, sharing their skills and learning new skills along the way and also prepared various groups for festivals happening in their parts of the world.

The year-long project delivered saw young emerging performers and cultural operators from the United Kingdom, South Africa, Zambia and the Netherlands take part in collaborative exchanges and voluntary service. These actions resulted in the development of new performance work that was presented at international festivals in each respective country.

Giles Agis, Executive Director for Brouhaha International, shares his thoughts on the opportunities the collaboration offers:

We would like to thank our project partner, Artscape Theatre for hosting this conference which also gave us the opportunity to meet with other youth arts development organisations in order to increase our ability to operate at transnational and international levels. Through this meeting, we were able to evaluate all aspects of the project and develop new ideas for future cooperation.

Over a number of years, Brouhaha International has built a reputation for developing innovative international youth projects both at home and abroad, hosting artists and companies from around the world. They have created a range of opportunities within European funding programmes for local young people to interact with international young performers through cultural exchanges and collaborative workshops, as well as participate in international mobility experiences.
