David Mirvish has announced that Ben Heppner, the greatest opera tenor of his generation, will be joining the cast of the new production of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Titanic. Titanic is part of the Mirvish 2014-15 Subscription Season. It will play May 20 to June 21, 2015 at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Bruce Ismay, the owner of the White Star Line at the time of the sinking of the Titanic, whose decision to save himself rather than go down with the ship made him the scapegoat for one of the greatest disasters of all time. An ensemble cast playing multiple roles tells this epic tale which explores not only the tragedy itself, but the sensationalized trials and aftermath of the night that changed the world forever. A new partnership between Carnegie Hall and medici.tv will make live webcasts of Carnegie Hall concert presentations available to audiences for the first time, showcasing performances by some of the world's most celebrated artists. A series of four free webcasts via medici.tv from Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage begins on Tuesday November 4 at 8 p.m. EST with a recital by mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and pianistDavid Zobel. DiDonato-one of the most beloved singers of her generation-will perform a program of Venetian and Venetian-themed songs and arias from the Baroque through the 20th century. The lineup continues on TuesdayNovember 18 at 8 p.m. with acclaimed violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter leading The Mutter Virtuosi, in a program that includes the U.S. premiere of André Previn's Violin Concerto No. 2 as well as Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. On Saturday November 22 at 8 p.m., the dream team of violinist Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Yuja Wang perform music by Schumann, Brahms, Respighi and Stravinsky. The Washington Stage Guild announces its 29th season of our distinctive repertory, an array of eloquent plays of idea and argument, passion and wit-smart theatre for a smart town. The 2014-2015 season includes the second part of our multi-year presentation of George Bernard Shaw's BACK TO METHUSELAH, and as the visionary cycle leaps into the future and examines the effect of human advances on relationships, the other three plays also focus on unexpected looks at basic ties to create A SEASON OF LOVE AND/OR MARRIAGE. Two Washington premieres are joined by two plays not seen here in decades, as we offer our first productions by two of Shaw's followers, Frederick Lonsdale and Terence Rattigan, and one by a contemporary American playwright, David Marshall Grant. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents the world premiere musical production Little Dancer in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater from October 25 to November 30, 2014. The musical features book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Lynn Ahrens, music by Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty, and direction and choreography by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. The Koerner Quartet presents its second concert of the season with the brilliantly refined program - Nothing but the Classics - on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 2pmin the Koerner Recital Hall at the Vancouver Academy of Music (VAM). The acclaimed ensemble in-residence at VAM recently launched its debut public concert season and now moves headlong into a program of classical and romantic works highlighting chamber music giants Haydn, Beethoven, and Brahms - including a piece for string quintet that places particular emphasis on the viola during a timely transition for the group.
