Harlem Rep's THE WIZARD OF OZ to Close 8/20

'The Wizard of Oz,' presented by Harlem Repertory Theater and Yip Harburg Foundation, will now close August 20, 2017 after 26 performances.  A previously scheduled September 9 performance has been canceled. The production has played since October 8, 2016 at Tato Laviera Theatre, 240 East 123rd Street (near 2nd Ave.), Manhattan, and has been extended twice. (more...)

Sharon Playhouse Sets Star-Studded Casts for 2017 Summer Season

Sharon Playhouse has announced complete casting for its 2017 Season. The season kicks off with MINOR CHARACTER: SIX TRANSLATIONS OF UNCLE VANYA, created by New Saloon (Morgan Green, Madeline Wise, and Milo Cramer), followed by FAR AWAY by Caryl Churchill (Love and Information). The season will conclude with a new, intimate chamber production of Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN. BWW Interview: Of Country Music Legends, Children's Theatre, and Community: MSMT Opens A PEEK BEHIND THE CURTAIN Series

'We wanted to go big and grand. We knew we had Christine [Mild] with her powerhouse performance and Charis [Leos] so we wanted to play it large and create an environment that would support them. The production concept we came up with turned out to be a wonderful envelope to wrap around the show and the entire staging fell into place.' Co-director/choreographer Marc Robin was talking about his and Curt Dale Clark's vision for their new staging of Always, Patsy Cline, which opened Maine State Music Theatre's 2017 season on June 7th. Robin was part of a panel that also featured Patsy star Christine Mild and stand-by Heidi Kettenring, MSMT Charge Scenic Artist Sean Cox, and MSMT Board Vice President Kristine Ganong. The discussion on June 14th, moderated by Broadway World Maine editor Carla Maria Verdino-Sullwold was the first in the now four-year-old summer series of free public forums, A Peek Behind the Curtain, held at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick. The series, designed to give theatre-goers insight into the creative processes of producing each of the summer main stage shows, featured a lively and far-reaching conversation about Patsy Cline, MSMT's Theatre for Young Audiences program, and the theatre's burgeoning role in the community. First Male Actor to Play Dorothy in a Licensed Production of THE WIZARD OF OZ in the World

Consumers who love The Wizard of Oz will especially like this fully licensed adaption of the timeless classic performed live and on stage at The Hole In The Wall Theater in New Britain from July 7th thru the 9th 2007. The show will be sung live and the adaption has a twist where the Lead Role of Dorothy is being played for the first time by a Male Actor, Ben Orlando. Ben Orlando, AKA Summer Orlando is a well-known Drag Performer in the State of Connecticut. AstonRep Theatre Company Announces 2017-18 Season

AstonRep Theatre Company is pleased to announce its 2017-18 Season, kicking off this fall with 1984, a chilling view of a world controlled by a totalitarian government, based on George Orwell's classic novel, adapted for the stage by Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall Jr. and William A. Miles and directed by Artistic Director Robert Tobin. This winter, the season continues with a FESTIVAL OF ONE ACTS BY TENNESSEE WILLIAMS, celebrating one of the 20th century's greatest writers. AstonRep's season concludes next summer with THE LARAMIE PROJECT, a community's deeply-moving response to the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard, written by Moises Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project and directed by Associate Artistic Director Derek Bertelsen. The 2017-18 season will also include the 9th ANNUAL WRITERS' SERIES, a daylong festival of workshops from talented local and regional writers.  (more...)
