Northlight Theatre Celebrates 40 Years With a Commitment to New Work

On the eve of Northlight's 40th Anniversary Season, the theatre celebrates its rich history of developing and producing new work. In the upcoming season, Northlight is producing two world premiere works (White Guy on the Bus and Shining Lives: A Musical), the second-ever productions of two plays (The Commons of Pensacola and Outside Mullingar) and a classic rarely produced in the US (The Mousetrap). In addition, Northlight has a number of new works in development through Interplay, a program that has sent 25 out of 29 scripts on to full professional productions throughout the country and developed Northlight's three best-selling plays: Better Late by Larry Gelbart and Craig Wright, The Outgoing Tide by Bruce Graham and Chapatti by Christian O'Reilly. TNT Picks Up COLD JUSTICE for Third Season

TNT is ready to crack more unsolved cases as it orders a third season of its fascinating real-life crime series Cold Justice. The series, which recently reached the middle of its second season, has become a Friday night hit for TNT, delivering strong demo growth compared to season one. TNT's renewal includes 10 episodes slated for the series' third season. Season 2 of Cold Justice is currently airing Fridays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). Central City Opera to Present THE SOUND OF MUSIC, 8/2-10

Audiences of all ages can hum along to their favorite songs like "Edelweiss," "My Favorite Things" "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and title song "The Sound of Music" when Central City Opera (CCO) brings to Denver one of the most popular Broadway productions of all time, The Sound of Music. Rodgers and Hammerstein II's Tony Award winning musical, which was also an Academy Award winning movie, is Central City Opera's final production for the 2014 Festival. The Sound of Music will be performed at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Denver Performing Arts Complex for seven performances only from August 2 through August 10. Directed by Ken Cazan, who also directed CCO's critically acclaimed production of Dead Man Walking this Summer, The Sound of Music will be performed in English with a full live orchestra. The Ogunquit Playhouse lost a dear friend when Henry J. Weller, Jr. passed away on June 25, 2014. Mr. Weller was the General Manager of the Ogunquit Playhouse from 1950 to 1997, and worked in partnership with John Lane from the beginning when John first purchased the theatre in 1950, during the heyday of the Summer Stock Circuit and the establishment of the Council of Summer Theatres (COST) that John Lane initiated. Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director of Lincoln Center and the Mostly Mozart Festival, announced today that Lincoln Center has extended the contract for Louis Langree, the Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director of the Mostly Mozart Festival and Orchestra through 2017. Maestro Langree made his Mostly Mozart Festival debut with the Festival Orchestra in 1998, and was named Music Director in 2002. The artistic partnership between Langree and the musicians of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra has been an exceptionally inspired and 2017 will mark his 15th year as Music Director of the ensemble and the Festival. Under his musical leadership, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra's stature and recognition as an outstanding ensemble has received extensive critical acclaim, and the orchestra's concerts are an annual highlight for Summertime classical music lovers in New York City. In addition to its focus on the classical repertoire, concerts by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra now regularly feature works from musical periods following Mozart including the 20th century and beyond. Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to Open 2014-15 Season with Beethoven's Violin Concerto, 9/18-21

Music Director Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) kick off the 2014-2015 concert season with Beethoven's Violin Concerto and Mahler's Fourth Symphony on Thursday, September 18 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore, and Friday, September 19 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 21 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Baltimore native and Grammy award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn joins the BSO to perform Beethoven's Violin Concerto, which is widely considered the pinnacle of the violin literature. The final two-week session for Camp Media Theatre 2014 starts up August 11. It's OZ Camp, in which all songs performed by the campers will be gleaned from 'The Wizard of Oz', 'The Wiz', or 'Wicked'. Camp Media Theatre has had a record-breaking Summer. 'We have had more campers this year than ever before,' said Executive Director Patrick Ward.
