BWW Review: Trinity Rep's Uproarious THE HUNCHBACK OF SEVILLEBWW Review: Trinity Rep's Uproarious THE HUNCHBACK OF SEVILLE
by Andria Tieman - Feb 11, 2016

T.S. Eliot insists that April is the cruelest month, but I've always firmly believed that the correct answer is February. Between the unpredictable weather events and the cold; the sloppy sidewalks and the general malaise of realizing that spring is a long way off--February needs to have a few bright spots in order for us to power through. Though the story takes place on a cold day in 1504 Seville, it feels like a ray of sunshine-- perfect to thaw out your sense of humor and warm up your funny bone. (more...)

BWW REVIEW: PIPPIN Brings Its Magic Back to BostonBWW REVIEW: PIPPIN Brings Its Magic Back to Boston
by Jan Nargi - Feb 10, 2016

The extraordinary journey of the Broadway revival of PIPPIN began at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge a few years back, and now that triumphant Tony Award-winning musical, directed by Diane Paulus, is back in Boston via the national tour. While some tweaks have since been made to the production that had its Broadway tryout at the A.R.T., the show's exuberant joie de vivre and circus-inspired excitement are still intact. If anything, the show's politics and humor have been heightened in this iteration, thanks largely to its sensational cast. (more...)

Photo Flash: Inside Opening Night of Porchlight Music Theatre's FAR FROM HEAVENPhoto Flash: Inside Opening Night of Porchlight Music Theatre's FAR FROM HEAVEN
by BWW News Desk - Feb 10, 2016

Porchlight presents the critically acclaimed new musical based on the 2002 film hit starring Julianne Moore. In 1957 suburban Connecticut, Cathy Whitaker seems to be the picture-perfect wife and mother. But boiling beneath the surface, secret longings and forbidden desires cause her world to unravel, with incendiary consequences. Featuring a lush score from Tony Award-nominated (Grey Gardens and Finding Neverland) songwriters Frankel and Korie and a book by Tony Award-winner Greenberg (Take Me Out) that is both jazz-inflected and hauntingly lyrical, FAR FROM HEAVEN is a powerful story of romance, betrayal and intolerance, as a woman grapples with her identity in a society on the verge of upheaval.
