One of New York's brightest new musicals written by members of the Millennial Generation will finally be seen in Chicago when the newly formed Refuge Theatre Project, a company dedicated to presenting ensemble pieces of new American musical writers, opens Next Thing You Know at The Den Theater in February. While musicals by millennials have received commercial productions in New York City, they've been largely unseen in Chicago. BWW Review: INTO THE WOODS Is a Wish Come True for Fans of Both Theatre and FilmBWW Review: INTO THE WOODS Is a Wish Come True for Fans of Both Theatre and Film
by Matt Tamanini - Dec 19, 2014

For many musical theatre fans, a beloved Broadway musical, fairly faithfully, adapted into a stunning big screen success, is their most treasured of Christmas wishes. In recent years, however, the holidays have brought us near misses (LES MISERABLES), underwhelming disappointments (Rent), and outright abominations (NINE). However, Disney's INTO THE WOODS, opening nationwide on Christmas Day, is those musical theatre fans' wish fulfilled. With a cast of Hollywood A-listers and Broadway alums, all of whom prove more than capable of handling Stephen Sondheim's uniquely intricate and intellectual music and lyrics, this very well might be the most effectively adapted movie musical of the past half century. The lush orchestrations, the gorgeous settings, and the spectacular cast had a smile plastered on my face from the film's first note until its last. (more...)

Mortgage Lender Sentiment Survey Results Show Increased Concerns with Mortgage Demand GrowthMortgage Lender Sentiment Survey Results Show Increased Concerns with Mortgage Demand Growth
by BWW News Desk - Dec 17, 2014

WASHINGTON, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ Fewer mortgage lenders are reporting tighter credit while weak consumer demand is increasingly cited as driving lenders' decreased profit margin outlook, according to results from Fannie Mae's fourth quarter 2014 Mortgage Lender Sentiment Survey. Conducted in November 2014, the survey shows that for GSE-eligible loans, the share of lenders who say they have tightened their credit standards during the prior three months has gradually trended down this year, decreasing to 13 percent in the fourth quarter compared to 28 percent in the first quarter. For non-GSE-eligible loans, more lenders reported easing than tightening of credit standards for the second consecutive quarter. Despite this, consumer demand reported for single-family purchase mortgages over the prior three months declined significantly from Q3 to Q4, and the share of lenders expecting demand to go down during the next three months has climbed, supporting expectations that the housing market will continue to grind its way upward next year.
