The Muny announced today 21 principal cast members for its 99th season. Full company casting will be announced throughout April. The 2017 Muny season opens with Jesus Christ Superstar followed by Disney's The Little Mermaid and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The season continues with the premiere of All Shook Up! and a newly re- envisioned The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Season 99 closes with A Chorus Line and the much- anticipated Muny debut of Newsies. California Symphony Announces 2017-18 Season

The California Symphony today announced its 2017-18 season, its thirty-first, and its fifth with Music Director Donato Cabrera. The season includes a world premiere and a West Coast premiere, first performances of Mozart's Requiem and Sibelius's Third Symphony, the first performances in more than 20 years of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, Pastoral, and Mahler's Symphony No. 4, the first performance of a work of Mahler's since the Orchestra's 1997-98 season. The Orchestra also welcomes guest soloists Haochen Zhang in Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2; soprano Maria Valdes in Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and in Mahler's Symphony No. 4; and Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 with Alexi Kenney. The Orchestra gives the world premiere of new Young American Composer-in-Residence Katherine Balch's newest work, a California Symphony commission; and performs two works by Bay Area-based composer Nathaniel Stookey: the West Coast premiere of YTTE (Yield to Total Elation), and The Composer is Dead, the popular orchestral whodunit by Stookey and author Lemony Snicket, with Broadway star Manoel Felciano as narrator. Other highlights include performances with the San Francisco Conservatory Chorus and conductor Ragnar Bohlin of Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Arvo Pärt's Te Deum, as part of the Mozart Requiem concert, and a performance of Smetana's Vltava (Die Moldau). New Tampa Players is bringing Jesus Christ Superstar to their home stage at the University Area CDC March 31 through April 2 and April 7 through April 9, but first they have been taking the show on the road. Earlier this month, the cast performed a musical revue for the resident families at Metropolitan Ministries. 'Rehearsals for Superstar have been demanding, so I wasn't sure how the cast would feel about giving up a Saturday,' Director G. Frank Meekins said, 'but in the end it was a privilege to be able to share musical theater with adults and children who might not otherwise get to see a live performance like this.' (more...)

Breckenridge Backstage Theatre's 43rd Season gets a jolt of energy with their first all-youth mainstage production, School of Rock - The Musical (Youth Production), based on the hit Paramount movie written by Mike White.  The stage version with book by Julian Fellowes, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and new music by Andrew Lloyd Webber is ready to rock the boards in Breckenridge.  Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck and wannabe rock star decides to earn a few bucks as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school.  What could be hard about that?  Ignoring the rules and pleas of the school's administration, Dewey throws academia aside and creates his own curriculum, complete with guitar riffs, keyboard solos, and jam sessions.  Little does he know, but his rebellious antics and creation of a kids' rock band has inspired and empowered this group of over-scheduled prep students with the power of rock.
