The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and Music Director James R. Cassidy close the Symphony's 20th anniversary Summer Series in Devou Park, Saturday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. with a free program dubbed "The Battle of Broadway: Sondheim vs. Webber." Composers Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber (who coincidently have the same birthday - March 22) ruled the boards on Broadway and the West End for most of the 1970s-80s compiling hit song after hit song in a string of award winning musicals. Home-grown bonafide Broadway stars Pamela Myers and Jessica Hendy will be featured, singing the hit tunes of these living legends. (more...)

Washington National Opera (WNO) opens its 2015-2016 season with a newto-Washington staging of Georges Bizet's popular classic Carmen, September 19 to October 3 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. Starring two French mezzo-sopranos-Clementine Margaine and Geraldine Chauvet- in the title role, this production also showcases two stars of flamenco dance, principal dancers Timo Nuñez (Fox's So You Think You Can Dance) and Fanny Ara. The production is staged by American director E. Loren Meeker and the WNO Orchestra is led by American conductor Evan Rogister. Universally heralded for his immense contributions to musical theater in a career spanning more than 50 years, Sondheim will be honored at the Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at The Forum (725 W.
