RUTHLESS! The Musical's leading man, Peter Land, collapsed onstage at the top of the second act on Friday evening, July 17th. EMT's arrived on the scene and Mr. Land was transported to the hospital where he received emergency surgery for a tear in the aorta. His recovery is going extremely well and he was even discharged from the hospital earlier this week. Paul Pecorino has assumed the role of Sylvia St. Croix and Mr. Land hopes to return to the show in the near future. Author Joel Paley bravely filled in for several performances in the week following the accident (triumphantly, according to all eyewitnesses). (more...)

Due to popular demand, Scottsdale Musical Theater Company is adding a performance of their upcoming production of Gypsy on Saturday, August 22 @ 2PM. Scottsdale Musical Theater Company welcomes long time valley theater veterans Debra Qualtire as 'Mama Rose' and Zoni Award winner Terry Gadaire as 'Herbie' with the title role of 'Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee' played by Sarah Cassidy. The show will be directed and choreographed by David Hock, with Kevin Hayward as musical director/conductor of our 20+ piece orchestra. Performances dates/times: August 20, 21, 22 @ 7:30PM and August 22 and 23 @ 2:00PM Performances will take place at Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85281. 'I never wanted to do anything else!' the dynamic blonde character actress tells Broadway World one recent afternoon on a break in her rehearsals for Maine State Music Theatre's Music Man, which opened July 16. Charis Leos is currently playing Eulalie, the Mayor of River City's wife in her third with the company role this summer season; she has already delighted audiences as Georgie in The Full Monty and Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act, and she looks forward to undertaking Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein in what will be her tenth season in Brunswick. Leos has strong ties to MSMT, to Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, and to director Marc Robin (Music Man/Young Frankenstein), and she says she 'loves the quality of work we do here. A lot has to do with the community which is so incredibly supportive. This is the best-paid vacation ever. Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre will present “Carmen” and “Don Quixote (Act I)” in a fiery, progressive production called “La Pasión de España.” Based on Bizet's opera, “Carmen” tells the story of a seductive Spanish Gypsy who loves wildly, and dangerously.  “Don Quixote” is a romantic comedy, full of chivalry and fantasy. Performances at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood are Saturday, September 12 at 8pm and Sunday, September 13 at 3pm. (more...)
