BWW Recap: 'Game On' as MADAM SECRETARY Follows Conspiracy to VenezuelaBWW Recap: 'Game On' as MADAM SECRETARY Follows Conspiracy to Venezuela
by Scott Fullerton - Nov 30, 2014

Maybe it's just me, but every time the opening scene goes past the ten minute mark, I am completely drawn into an episode. MADAM SECRETARY has been using this device better than anyone, and tonight's episode was no exception. We are going one step deeper into the conspiracy theory with the Secretary's decision to bring the team to Venezuela for a little diplomacy, and a check into former Secretary Marsh's secret bank account that came to light this week. The trip also brings daughter Stephanie back home to stay with her sister Allison while they are in South America, and Stephanie still has not gotten over her mother's reveal last week about her participation in torture during the Gulf War. BWW Reviews: One Final Weekend to See the Salty, Sassy Princesses of the Hilarious Musical Satire DISENCHANTEDBWW Reviews: One Final Weekend to See the Salty, Sassy Princesses of the Hilarious Musical Satire DISENCHANTED
by Jill Schafer - Nov 19, 2014

The princesses of DISENCHANTED will cast their spell on you in a whole different way than their Disney predecessors. While Disney portrays such fairy tale princesses and historical figures as Snow White, the Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas as sweet, mild-mannered, passive ladies waiting for a prince to Come Along and save them, the salty, sassy princess of DISENCHANTED are smart, strong, and unwilling to put up with crap from anyone! This new musical comedy by Dennis C. Giancino is currently in its second production here in the Twin Cities. Casting Spells Productions has brought back three of the princesses from last year's fantastic production at the Ritz Theater, added a few new and equally fabulous princesses, spiffed up the costumes, and included a few tweaks by the creator. It's still a super fun show for anyone who loves and/or hates Disney princesses. These are the kind of princesses little (and not so little) girls should emulate! (more...)

Walt Disney once said, 'I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing-that it was all started by a mouse.' Believe me when I say I remember, Walt, and I am thanking you now more than ever for creating such an iconic character. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be a twenty year old, in college, majoring in musical theatre, and planning a five month trip to Walt Disney World. Yet, here I am, writing about the initial steps of applying to the Disney College Program; furthermore, I write to describe the four month process of applying to accepting to preparing to packing. It's hard to believe that I've officially been living in Orlando, Florida, working in Disney World for two and a half weeks. I am just now writing about my first few weeks in Disney because when a college student participates in the Disney College Program (DCP) they barely have time to breathe. Every season productions Come Along that are so good that they remind me why us theater folk perform, produce and see theater. Personally, these are the shows that recharge my theatrical batteries so I can sit through the not so great ones (I'm looking at you "Flashdance: The Musical"). Such a show is the latest installment from The Seagull Project, Chekhov's "The Three Sisters" which manages such clarity of story, intent and meaning that you can practically feel the pain and frustration in the character's lives along with them. MEMPHIS National Tour to Play Capitol Center for the Arts, 3/12MEMPHIS National Tour to Play Capitol Center for the Arts, 3/12
by BWW News Desk - Feb 10, 2015

ired by actual events, Memphis, the Musical is set in the places where rock and roll was born in the 1950s: the seedy nightclubs, radio stations and recording studios of the musically- rich Tennessee city of Memphis. With an original score, it tells the fictional story of DJ Huey Calhoun, a good ole' local boy with a passion for R&B music and Felicia Farrell, an up-and-coming black singer that he meets one fateful night on Beale Street. Despite the objections of their loved ones (Huey's close-minded mama and Felicia's cautious brother, the club owner), they embark on a dangerous affair. As their careers rise, the relationship is challenged by personal ambition and the pressures of an outside world that is just unable to accept their love. Will their love be able to withstand the trials of separation, greed and fame? This hot and bothered Broadway musical is filled with heart, soul and energy to burn! Don't miss this Tony-award winning show when it comes to Concord's Capitol Center for the Arts for one night only Thursday, March 121 at 7:30pm. (more...)
