BWW Review: DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID - Awash With Problems
by Lynn Beaver - Nov 28, 2016

There are problems inherent in producing a modern Broadway play. A musical based on an animated movie raises the difficulty level unbelievably high. The Georgetown Palace's current production of DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID is a prime example of just how high the bar is set in trying to reproduce what looks seamless in New York. BWW Review: A DOG STORY Captures Hearts and Laughs at The Davenport Theater Loft
by Victoria Ordin - Nov 23, 2016

A DOG STORY is that rare musical comedy that manages to be sweet but not cloying, accessible but not banal, and light but not unsubstantial. With most of the city still in deep mourning over the election (and facing a logistical nightmare in Midtown for the next four years), this new musical--with a strong book by Eric H. Weinberger and excellent lyrics and music by Gayla D. Morgan-could not have come at a more perfect time. The show was an extended-release happy pill, after which you felt-if only for an hour or two-that everything will somehow be okay. (more...)

BWW Review: Exploring the Parallels of AMERICAN BUFFALO at Theater on the Edge
by Kimberly Moy - Nov 21, 2016

Capitalism is encapsulated in Theater on the Edge's portrayal of AMERICAN BUFFALO. Written by David Mamet, AMERICAN BUFFALO sits among the best modern American plays. While the play is a microscopic look into the lives of three men just trying to make a buck, it draws parallels to the underlying greed of corporate America. Theater on the Edge gives a raw, raucous, and honest production that would make Mamet proud. (more...)
