PuSh International Performing Arts Festival (PuSh) presents its 16th annual edition from January 21 to February 9, 2020 at various venues across the Lower Mainland. Featuring 27 works from 24 companies from nine countries a?" including six world premieres a?" the festival line-up is dedicated to creative risk-taking and dynamic interdisciplinary collaboration. Bonnie & Clyde, the musical about the life of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, is playing until October 13th at St. Dunstan's Theatre Guild of Cranbrook. The show is about the infamous Bonnie and Clyde of the Barrow Gang that robbed banks and committed murders around Depression-era Texas. I'll let the real Bonnie Parker's words kick off my review:

San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon announces that accomplished artist/educator Anne Norland will join the Company as Education Director. Prospect Productions today announces the UK premiere of Coral Browne: This F***ing Lady!, written and directed by Maureen Sherlock. So I was thrilled to research into AMPARO. This one of a kind immersive theater experience is based on the compelling, true story of an immigrant family's triumph through exile. From present-day Miami to 1957-Cuba, where you will follow cast members through the Cuban Revolution, bearing witness to the story of the Arechabala family--founders of THE REAL HAVANA CLUB rum.

Despite being a smash hit when it premiered in London in 1912, Sowerby's tale of a tyrannical patriarch who loses his grip on his children has rarely been produced in the U.S.

Obie Award winner Metropolitan Playhouse revives Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse's witty and apposite Pulitzer Winner, STATE OF THE UNION.  The limited run from February 8 through March 10, 2019, will be at the Playhouse home at 220 E 4th Street.

Rose Theatre Kingston and Vanessa Redgrave today announce a work in progress, Vienna 1934 - Munich 1938. Vanessa Redgrave performs on stage with Daisy Bevan, Robert Boulter and Paul Hilton. Opening with a limited run as a Work in Progress, at Rose Theatre Kingston on 7 February until 9 February. Also announced today is An Evening with Vanessa Redgrave hosted by Roger Michell on Saturday 9 February 7.30pm.

A longtime advocate for music suppressed by the Nazi regime, Polish-Canadian pianist Daniel Wnukowski (vnoo-koff'-skee) makes his New York debut this February as part of a festival dedicated to the music of Galician-Jewish composer Karol Rathaus (1895-1954). Little-known today, Rathaus was a protege of Franz Schreker and built a successful career in Berlin before fleeing in 1932 due to the deteriorating political situation in Germany. He first migrated to Paris, then to London in 1934. He settled in New York in 1938 and joined the music faculty of Queens College two years later as its first professor of composition.

When the Broadway debut of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's Merrily We Roll Along closed in 1981 after only 16 performances, few would have thought that the story of Merrily was only just beginning. In the coming decades, Merrily would continue to captivate audiences revival after revival, growing and evolving every step of the way. It is quite the testament to the enduring power of Sondheim that this musical, so many years after an initial failure, not only still captures imaginations, but continues to be shaped by them as well.

After opening night, Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's Merrily We Roll Along closed after just 16 performances, ending an epic era of Harold Prince/Sondheim collaborations that changed Broadway forever.  It was a short run, but a beloved cult classic was born.
