Singer, songwriter, film actor (City of God), and Rio native Seu Jorge is the reigning king of samba-funk: a sound, born in the 1960s, that merges Brazil's trademark dance rhythm with soul, R&B, hip-hop, and other black pop styles from the U.S. His hits, notably a?oeCarolina,a?? a?oeAmiga da Minha Mulhera?? (My Woman's Friend), and a?oeBurguesinhaa?? (Bourgeois Girl), are as irresistibly danceable as the best of Motown. Later he branched out into bossa nova as well as the songs of David Bowie, which he sang in Portuguese in Wes Anderson's 2004 film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Bowie raved about a?oethis new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.a?? He now stars in the Netflix crime drama Irmandade (Brotherhood).

10 Hairy Legs, the male repertory dance company, continues its aggressive commitment to the commissioning of new works and gains first-time rights to perform Brian Brooks' solo I'm Going to Explode, now totaling 14 World Premiere Commissioned Works since our founding in 2012. Three of the four works will debut at the company's New York Season June 27-29 at New York Live Arts; the fourth dèbuting in New York following its World Premiere at Ocean County College's Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts on April 18, 2020. OCC Commissioned the work with support from the Louis Prima Foundation.

This December, The Umbrella Stage Company is proud to be the first professional to company to bring to local audiences this newest musical, magical adaptation of Natalie Babbitt's classic children tale, Tuck Everlasting, which also inspired a 2002 Disney film.

Announced by Annerin Theatricals earlier this year, the North American tour of the Queen-inspired musical, WE WILL ROCK YOU, which debuted in 2002, returns to New York City this November at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. Main Street Highland Park was approved on July 17 to receive a $25,000 grant award from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to revamp and improve a downtown parking lot for public use. 

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. Continuing their 14th Main Stage Season, Temecula Performing Arts Company's artistic director Jillian Stones will produce and direct, We Will Rock You with Music by QUEEN and book by Ben Elton, at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater, 42051 Main Street, Temecula, CA. May 10 thru 19.

Through March 10th, you can catch the musical adaptation of the 1996 movie The Spitfire Grill at Oakland University's Meadow Brook Theatre. Though it never played on large stages such as Broadway or the West End, this tale of redemption and growth in small town U.S.A. has been produced by hundreds of theatres around the world and has been translated into multiple languages. In anticipation of this unique piece of theatre coming to Metro Detroit, BroadwayWorld Detroit spoke to the director of the show, Travis Walter. You can read our interview below.

The 2018 Inaugural NAAP (National Asian Artists Project) Gala took place on December 2nd celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Rodgers & Hammerstein's groundbreaking musical 'Flower Drum Song'. Cast members from numerous productions including the original 1958 Broadway company, tours, the 1961 film and the 2002 Broadway revival took over the Golden Unicorn Restaurant in the heart of Chinatown for a magical evening that included a spectacular eight course Chinese banquet and a sensational show.

His collaborator, composer Harvey Schmidt, just recently passed away. The production's record-breaking run closed, on January 13, 2002, after 17,162 performances. Their shows also include 110 in the Shade, I Do! I Do!, Philemon, Celebration and many more. And celebration is what it's about when Broadway veterans Carole Demas, who originated the role of Sandy in Grease, and Sarah Rice, who originated the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd, return to celebrate Jones & Schmidt. Demas and Rice have based the show on their 50 years of work and personal relationships with Tom and Harvey. With very special guest Broadway's Hal Robinson who is also a Fantasticks alumni.

 Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab announced today the inaugural production of the Hunter Theater Project, the New York premiere of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA at the Frederick Loewe Theater at Hunter College (E. 68th Street and Lexington Avenue), directed by Richard Nelson. Translated byRichard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky. This production is the first time renowned Russian literature translators Pevear and Volokhonsky will have a work premiere in New York City, following the show's world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego, California. Previews for UNCLE VANYA begin Friday, September 7. The production runs through Sunday, October 14, with an official press opening on Sunday, September 16. Tickets are on sale now.

Lineup to include Maryland's own Martin O'Malley, 7-piece Irish rock band O'Malley's March. BlackRock Center for the Arts has officially announced their annual Summer Concert Series line up on their outdoor stage. Shows are free and will be held for five consecutive Saturdays at 7 pm beginning June 30. New this summer: a variety of food trucks, and an exclusive Beer and Wine Garden for guests over 21. Family-friendly activities such as face painting, henna art, and caricature portraits will take place during the Family Fun Festival on July 28 starting at 5 pm and will include performances and workshops for kids by Culkin School of Irish Dance and an opening act by MacMillan Pipe Band. BlackRock's Concert Series celebrates Montgomery County's diverse population with an array of music including Irish Rock, Reggae, Salsa and Soul. The summer concert series showcases a distinctly diverse array of musical offerings that Blackrock Center for the Arts will present throughout the year. All Summer Concerts will be performed on the BlackRock front lawn, weather permitting - picnic blankets and low-back chairs will be allowed. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will move inside to the BlackRock Mainstage. Saturday, July 21 | Sizzlin' Salsa| Salsa Not your everyday salsero, Marlow Rosado is a producer, composer, and pianist who incorporates elements of rock, hip-hop, reggaeton, and bachata into his salsa recordings and performances. After moving to Florida to earn a master's degree in jazz education, Rosado began to share his love of music as a teacher while moonlighting conducting orchestras, producing recordings, and writing arrangements. A gig singing for Desmond Child - Songwriting Hall of Fame inductee and frequent associate of Aerosmith and Bon Jovi - led to work with Ricky Martin and Alejandra Guzmán. Rosado's second solo album, Retro earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Tropical Latin Album. Saturday, July 28 | O'Malley's March | Irish Rock Martin O'Malley has brought together a band of diverse musicians some born and raised in the traditions of Irish music, some classically trained, some life-long students of blues, rock, jazz. Jared Denhard, Jim Eagan, Pete Miller, Ralph Reinoldi, Jamie Wilson and Martin O'Malley are O'Malley's March. You could call it Celtic Rock- but it is so much more. This band has refused to stand in one place and simply play the usual fare. Irondale is proud to present the New York premiere of Sea of Common Catastrophe, a surreal multimedia theater work that grapples with complicity in the face of rapid urban change. Designed and directed by Jeff Becker, who leads a team of fellow New Orleans-based artists, Sea of Common Catastrophe follows three long-time residents of a tiny seaside town whose lives are uprooted when a compelling stranger arrives. Inspired by a passage from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novella Sea of Lost Time-where a town drowns on a Sunday afternoon but persists, submerged, in its daily life, as if the deluge had never occurred-Sea of Common Catastrophe uses spectacular lighting and video, live music, and an innovative two-story set to evoke a changing landscape of upscale living and chic restaurants that suddenly transforms into a magical sunken world.

Broadway - today and over the last decade or more - has played host to programs spotlighting the legends of the music industry: From Billie Holliday, Fat's Waller, and Kurt Weill to Carole King, Frankie Valli, ABBA, Janis Joplin, and Johnny Cash; to Peter Allen, Jimmy Buffet, Donna Summer, The Shirelles, The Gogos, Green Day, Tupac Shakur ... and lots of Beatles tributes ... with CHER planned for next season.
