Sacramento is brimming with new works in theatre this month, and one play that I am particularly looking forward to is by former Sacramento-based playwright James Van Eaton. The premiere of his Oscar Wilde-inspired An Honest Apology will be performed at FreeFall Stage beginning with their annual Valentine’s Day Dessert on February 14th. Zameer Rizvi will release his new album, Audacity, on May 24th. “Sedona,” inspired by a visit to the spiritually-rich red sandstone city in Arizona, opens with driving toms and syncopated guitars, delivering an upbeat pop rock soundscape replete with layered melodic vocals. Other singles, “Red Rock” and “Strong,” will drop through the summer.

Belvoir has announced Birripi, Worimi, Waddi Waddi and Walbunga actor and director Guy Simon as the 2023 Balnaves Foundation Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fellow, who will receive $45,000 over an 18-month period to create a new work as a resident artist at Belvoir in 2024/25.

Horton Foote Prize founder Mari Marchbanks announced today she will step down as Executive Director of the Horton Foote Prize. Valerie Brea Ross, Administrative Director of the Horton Foote Prize, will take over the role of Executive Director starting in January 2024. Ms. Marchbanks will continue her role as chair of the Prize board. 

White Plains Performing Arts Center will present Linda Eder on Saturday, January 20 at 7:30pm.
