Based on the film Passione d'Amore directed by Ettore Scola

Based on the novel Fosca by I. U. Tarchetti

PASSION, winner of 4 Tony Awards including Best Music and Lyrics, Best Book, and Best Musical, features music and lyrics by the acclaimed Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Company, Follies, Into The Woods, Gypsy) and book by James Lapine (Falsettos, Into The Woods, Sunday In The Park With George).

PASSION opened on Broadway in 1994, and received its London revival in 2010 at the Donmar Warehouse as part of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday celebrations.

Stephen Sondheim's PASSION revolves around a handsome Italian solider, Giorgio, separated from his beautiful mistress, who is shattered and ultimately changed by the unconditional and obsessive love of Fosca, his Colonel's chronically ill and plain cousin. Her unrelenting passions force him to re-evaluate his beliefs about love and attraction between two human beings.

BWW Review: Three's Company in Garden Theatre's BOEING BOEINGBWW Review: Three's Company in Garden Theatre's BOEING BOEING
by Matt Tamanini - Mar 31, 2015

There is a lot wrong with the central conceit of Marc Camoletti's farce BOEING BOEING, playing at the Garden Theatre through April 4th. Set in Paris in 1963, Bernard, an insatiable womanizer (likely with undiagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder) has figured out that the best way to reap the benefits of having three live-in fiancees without any of them knowing about each other is to only propose to flight attendants on conflicting schedules. From there, the jokes nearly write themselves as schedules change and weather delays departures. Directed by Keith Smith, the Garden Theatre's six-person cast bounces through the madcap comedy with an abundant joy, despite all of the outdated gender politics. BOEING BOEING, translated from the original French by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans, stands up well as a time-capsule from a different time with a different perspective, and if you can get past the show's uncomfortable premise, you are sure to enjoy its charming cast and taut direction. BWW Reviews: Excellent Performances Lift Weak Script of Wilbury Group's RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURNBWW Reviews: Excellent Performances Lift Weak Script of Wilbury Group's RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN
by Robert Barossi - Mar 30, 2015

There are many ways a playwright, filmmaker, writer or artist can work their themes and messages into a creative work. In some cases, those themes are delivered subtly, with nuance, so they're almost imperceptible at first but land in the audience's mind long after they've witnessed the work of art. At the other end of the spectrum, important messages can be put at the forefront, told in forceful and undeniable ways so that the audience is immediately confronted with them. Both of those approaches can and do often work. Unfortunately, in the Wilbury Group's current production of Rapture, Blister, Burn, the messages are delivered at the expense of a captivating compelling story or engaging characters. (more...)
