About Violinist Anca Nicolau:

Violinist Anca Nicolau was born in Bucharest, Romania, where, at the age of 15, she was the winner of the Romanian National Youth Competition; a soloist with the Romanian Radio Orchestra; and a finalist in the George Enescu Competition. One year later Ms. Nicolau came to the United States where she continued her studies with Raphael Bronstein, Ivan Galamian, and Ruggiero Ricci.

Ms. Nicolau is a member of the Loma Mar Quartet, the Mozartean Players, the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Opera Lafayette, and the American Classical Orchestra. With the Loma Mar Quartet, Ms. Nicolau has toured, recorded, and performed worldwide. The quartet's recording for EMI: "Working Classical, by Paul McCartney", reached number one on the classical music charts, and in 2010, the quartet performed at the Library of Congress for Sir Paul McCartney's "Gershwin Prize for Song Writing" ceremony. With the Mozartean Players, Ms. Nicolau has toured and performed extensively, and is presently in the process of recording the Beethoven piano trios.

Ms. Nicolau was a member of the fellowship program and a prizewinner at Tanglewood and has toured throughout the world appearing at the Spoleto, Edinburgh, Perth, Warsaw, and "The Proms" festivals. She is on the faculty of Hoff-Barthelson Music School, and the InterHarmony Festival in Germany, where she has given solo performances, as well as collaborated with artists including Emma Tahmizian, Jean-Bernard Pommier and Alfred Brendel.
