Maryland Ensemble Theatre is proud to announce the creation of a festival of new works in this summer's METLab. The festival will feature a "Plays in Progress" series that will include a full production and staged readings at various levels of development including a chance to see the same work at different stages. The festival will also feature free "Coffee House Readings" staged in a relaxed atmosphere with live music, wine and of course java. All plays are by Maryland natives. MET Artistic Director Tad Janes is enthusiastic about sharing these original works with MET audiences. "METLab was created because the passion for new voices had started spilling over. Our ensemble was ready to create a play development festival that served the needs of the playwright. We aim to give voice to new playwrights and give local artists a space to be heard." (more...)

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) continues its seventeenth Mainstage season with the satirical dark comedy "The Arsonists" by Max Frisch, and translated by Alistair Beaton. Inspired by the Communist takeover of Czechoslovakia in 1948, this absurdist allegory satirizes the way in which people can be manipulated into accommodating their own destruction. In the play, fires are becoming something of a problem, popping up all over town, but Mr. Biedermann has it all under control. A respected member of the community, he tries to live a life of blameless middle-class decency. It is this sense of bourgeois propriety that renders Biedermann defenseless when two strangers finesse their way into his home and settle in. But when they start filling his attic with petrol drums, will he help them light the fuse? (more...)

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET), Frederick's largest producing non-profit theater, launched a Capital Campaign in September of 2013 to raise funds for an additional performance venue and alterations to the existing facilities. On January 10, 2015 MET celebrated the completion of the Stage2: The Greene Space venue and numerous other capital improvements with a ribbon cutting ceremony, hours of free activities for families, and an evening of comedy and music. Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is proud to announce its 2014-2015 Mainstage season. MET's seventeenth mainstage season will run from September of 2014 through June of 2015 and will feature a classic Shakespeare comedy, a German masterpiece, a World Premiere original, and contemporary crowd pleasers. Season subscriptions are on sale now at a special early bird rate. MET Artistic Director Tad Janes shared his excitement about all the plays, 'This season brings such great plays to the MET! Two very exciting newer plays, Clybourne Park and Good People, both have a great sense of humor, but also have a real depth of message. The Arsonists is a very funny, bordering on absurd, comedy, and we feature two excellent timeless pieces with The Elephant Man and Twelfth Night. Next season also brings a new MET created piece, brought to us by MET Mainstage writing alumni Reiner Prochaska.' (more...)

The show, created by and starring MET Artistic Director Tad Janes, made its World Premiere at MET last March to high praise. In DC Metro Arts' five star review Mike Spain wrote, 'Truthpaste: A Blotto Biography is a fun and crazy, high-energy, quick-changing, real, honest, extremely funny, and one heck of a roller coaster ride. You'll have a great time!'. On bringing the show back Janes said, 'I got such a great response the first time, and have had people say they wanted to see it again or people who didn't get the chance to see it in the first place; so, why not bring it back?'. The Bowl-A-Thon will provide a fun activity for the whole family to participate in that will help the MET better serve its students and patrons.
