Baltimore Center Stage has announced the cast and artistic team for the world premiere of The Glorious World of Crowns, Kinks and Curls, the first offering of the Mainstage Series. The play will be delivered solely virtually.  

Thoughts of a Colored Man, the new play by Keenan Scott II will play Broadway’s Golden Theatre. Signaling a genuine moment of optimism about the future return of theater to New York City, this morning, the marquee for Thoughts of a Colored Man was installed at the Golden Theatre making it the first new show to take up residence at a Broadway theater since the pandemic forced all plays and musicals to stop performances on March 12, 2020.

Writer Keenan Scott II and producer Brian Moreland discussed the upcoming Broadway premiere of Thoughts of a Colored Man. The new play, directed by Steve H. Broadnax III, will open on Broadway in the upcoming season at a Shubert theater to be announced.

Today, Baltimore Center Stage announced updates to their 58th season. As the coronavirus pandemic continues, this new season allows both the rehearsal process for cast and crew, as well as the delivery of the productions to audiences, to happen in the safest way while also best honoring the spirit of each production.

Mari Marchbanks (Founder and Executive Director) announced today that The 2020 Horton Foote Prize has been awarded to Lloyd Suh for his play The Chinese Lady. Awarded since 2010, the biennial prize is named in honor of the late playwright, and recognizes excellence in American theatre.

Baltimore Center Stage announced today The 19th: Whose Vote Is It Anyway?, a virtual event taking place at 7pm on Monday, August 17th, the eve of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Widely acknowledged as the amendment granting women the right to vote, this event will call attention to the fact that only white women were truly granted suffrage on August 18th, 1920. Featuring musical performances, poetry, theater, and more, this event will both celebrate and interrogate the 19th amendment and what it means for human rights and women, nationwide.
