Theatre Aspen Opens Sandy Rustin's THE COTTAGE Tonight, 7/24

Award-winning Theatre Aspen opens the final show of the theatre's summer repertory season on July 24th, with the regional premiere of the brand new comedy The Cottage, by Sandy Rustin, running in rep with The Full Monty and Little Women. The playwright has been in residence to work on the show before the opening performance, with a cast of Broadway veterans including Nancy Anderson, Michele Ragusa, Mark Price, Michael Kostroff, Bailey Frankenberg and Spencer Plachy. Theatre Aspen Expands Food Service at the Hurst; Hosts BeerCRUSH at 8/1 Performance of THE FULL MONTY

Theatre Aspen announces expanded lobby hours as well as exciting food offerings at the Hurst Theatre. Located in the beautiful setting of the John Denver Sanctuary in Rio Grande Park, Theatre Aspen's concession area is now open throughout the day offering gourmet, pre-packaged items daily (closed Sundays). In partnership with local chef Mawa McQueen, of Mawa's Kitchen, visitors can enjoy healthy snack boxes in the theatre's open air lobby or picnic outside in and around the Rio Grande Park. Food items include charcuterie platters, salads, a Mediterranean sampler and other small meals. Mawa's Kitchen is available for "pop-up" dinners at the tent for groups wishing to cater a meal prior to a Theatre Aspen performance. Group ticket discounts would apply. (more...)

Theatre Aspen announced the launch of a new play development series today, with the early workshopping of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater musical Alice By Heart, based on the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Sheik and Sater are best known for their 2007 rock musical Spring Awakening which won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. (more...)

APAC's Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik to Step Down

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) announced today that Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik will be stepping down from his position as Artistic Director on June 30th, 2014. During Wojtunik's six years as Artistic Director, he successfully raised the company's artistic profile and solidified APAC's place as a respected developer and producer of new works. MIDTOWN DIRECT REP (MDR), the resident theater company at South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC), and co-directors/producers Sandy Rustin (Playwright/Co-Lyricist Rated P ... for Parenthood) and Deborah Goldstein (Publisher Village Q) are pleased to announce the incredible local cast of the 2014 North Jersey show of Listen to Your Mother, a national series of original live readings about motherhood (www.listentoyourmothershow.com). The production will be May 10th at 5:00 PM show at The South Orange Performing Arts Center (One SOPAC Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079). Statewide open auditions were held in early March and 15 writers have been selected to join the movement of 'giving motherhood a microphone.' The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC), recipient of the 2012 Caffe Cino Fellowship Award from the Innovative Theatre Foundation, has announced their 13th season will include a world premiere play by Sandy Rustin (Rated P (for Parenthood)) THE COTTAGE, directed by Adam Dannheisser (Rock of Ages, resident director), and Rodgers and Hammerstein's ALLEGRO, directed by Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik.
