The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), presents the twelfth season of Great Music in a Great Space under the direction of Kent Tritle, Director of Cathedral Music and Organist.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine's 2022-23 season of the Great Music in a Great Space concert series begins with a performance by Artist in Residence David Briggs on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:30pm.

During its 20th Anniversary concert season, Symphony San Jose will feature acclaimed solo artists chosen for their virtuosity and their singular magic on their instrument. Renowned on six continents, Norwegian soloist Tine Thing Helseth opens the season with Tomasi’s formidable Trumpet Concerto performed with her signature lyricism and warmth.

The Orchestra Now, the visionary orchestra and master’s degree program founded by Bard College president, conductor, educator, and music historian Leon Botstein, returns to the stage for its eighth season on September 10, 2022.

Ballet Ariel opens its 24th season with the 1910 masterpiece Carnaval, a light and romantic ballet choreographed by Michel Fokine, one of the great ballet choreographers of the 20th Century. Fokine's Carnaval is adapted from the piano suite of the same name by Robert Schumann. Carnaval is perfect for Ballet Ariel's expressive and emotive style as comedic characters dance with couples at a carnival, creating charming, little vignettes.

One possible translation of the city name 'Avignon' would be 'The Windy City.' The locals have named this weather event 'le Mistral.' In my previous Avignon experience, the Mistral has made limited cameo appearances. However, for the opening performance of Samuel Achache's Sans Tambour at the Festival d'Avignon's Cloître des Carmes, it became a leading playe and watching the cast masterfully steer its way around this scene stealing diva became a foundational element to the evening's performance.
