Soloist Russell Janzen has been promoted to the rank of principal dancer, and corps de ballet members Sara Adams, Harrison Ball, Emilie Gerrity, Joseph Gordon, Unity Phelan, Troy Schumacher, and Indiana Woodward have been promoted to Soloist. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts will celebrate the 2017 NEA Jazz Masters with a free concert, Monday, April 3, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. The performance will honor the recipients of the nation's highest honor in jazz, highlighting their lifetime achievements and exceptional contributions to the advancement of jazz music. The concert, held during Jazz Appreciation Month, will also be streamed online at www.kennedy-center.org. In addition to the April 3 concert, the NEA Jazz Masters will hold a listening party at National Public Radio headquarters on Sunday, April 2, and a master class for young musicians to learn from the Jazz Masters themselves at Howard University on Tuesday, April 4. Dampened from the chilly rain falling outside, I stepped into the majestic David H. Koch Theater on January 24, 2017 in desperate need of comfort. But I got so much more than that at New York City Ballet's Stravinsky x Five program. As I took my seat, the heavenly timbres of Stravinsky's bluesy score from "Scenes de Ballet" flooded my ears and spirit. In that moment, all was right in the world, and it stayed that way for the entire evening. (more...)

Lincoln Center announced today '30 Days for $30,' a new initiative offering greater access to performances for 30 days between February 1 and March 4, 2017. Via an online lottery hosted by Jujamcyn Theaters, Lincoln Center and many of its resident organizations will make prime seats available for only $30 to a wide swath of productions across the campus. The DeBartolo Performing Art Center's acclaimed Ensemble-in-Residence, Third Coast Percussion (TCP) brings new music to the Presenting Series on Saturday, February 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the center's Leighton Concert Hall. The evening of contemporary music serves as the ensemble's final concert of their annual six weeks of residency at the University of Notre Dame. As part of their residency, Third Coast joins the St. Joseph County Library's 25th Annual Science Alive with a demonstration on sound waves developed with faculty in Notre Dame's College of Engineering. The group is in its fourth year as teachers and innovators premiering works commissioned by Notre Dame. The spring program features works by Brooklyn-based composer Christopher Cerrone and Hungarian composer Gyorgy Sandor Ligeti (1923-2006), as well as compositions by ensemble member Peter Martin and the first work collaboratively composed by Third Coast, all accomplished and active composers. The work by Cerrone is a University of Notre Dame commission and receives its world premiere at the concert. (more...)
