Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater presents the world-premiere historical drama Camp David, penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright and directed by Artistic Director Molly Smith. Based on true events surrounding the 1978 Camp David Accords, the play follows the 13-day meeting between President Jimmy Carter, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat as they attempted to create the impossible: peace in the Middle East. Hosted by Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson reporting from Gallery 69 in Tribeca, the newest ARTS IN THE CITY debuts Friday, March 14 (2014) on CUNY TV* at 10am, 3pm and 8:30pm; is repeated Sunday 3/16 at noon; and returns Friday 3/28 at 10am, 3pm and 8:30pm and on Sunday 3/30 at noon on CUNY TV. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for the world-premiere historical drama Camp David, penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright and directed by Artistic Director Molly Smith. Based on true events surrounding the 1978 Camp David Accords, the play follows the 13-day meeting between President Jimmy Carter, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat as they attempted to create the impossible: peace in the Middle East. The production features Tony Award nominee Hallie Foote (Broadway's Dividing the Estate) as Rosalynn Carter, Egyptian actor and activist Khaled Nabawy (Kingdom of Heaven, Fair Game) as Anwar Sadat, Tony Award winner Ron Rifkin (Alias, Broadway's Cabaret) as Menachem Begin and Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas (The Waltons) as President Jimmy Carter. Cork Film Centre Faces Savage Funding Cut

The Arts Council have announced a crippling funding cut (50%) for Cork Film Centre in 2014, with a total withdrawal of funding in 2015. The Arts Council is the primary funder of the Cork Film Centre, which also receives some support from Cork City Council and Cork County Council, as well as generating limited income through workshops and occasional special projects. The Old Globe presents the 16th annual production of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The holiday musical will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Nov. 16 - Dec. 28. Previews run from Nov. 16 - Nov. 20. Opening night is Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. The Grinch isdirected by James Vasquez with book and lyrics by Timothy Mason and music by Mel Marvin. The original production of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! was conceived and directed by Jack O'Brien with Additional Lyrics by Theodor S. Geisel, Additional Music by Albert Hague and original choreography by John DeLuca. Ticket prices start at $37 for adults and $24 for children (17 years and under). Performances are restricted to children 3 years and up except for the 11:00 a.m. performances for which tickets can be purchased for children of all ages. Everyone must have a ticket. In celebration of choreographer Lar Lubovitch's 70th birthday in 2013, The Joffrey Ballet's season concludes this spring with the return of the native Chicagoan's three-act dance, Othello. Set to a score by Oscar winner Elliot Goldenthal, Othello uses an amalgam of classical ballet and modern dance to tell the dramatic story of the Venetian Moor, Othello, his beloved Desdemona and the conniving Iago, in a vibrant tale of passion, jealousy, ambition and betrayal. Live orchestral accompaniment is provided by The Chicago Philharmonic, led by Joffrey Music Director Scott Speck. The Joffrey Ballet presents Othello in ten performances only at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 East Congress Parkway, April 24 - May 5. (more...)
