On Sunday evening, 54 Below celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the musical Grand Hotel on Broadway in high style with two performances crackling with energy and featuring a talented roster of performers including 13 from the original cast. Splendidly Directed (and Written) by Walter Willison, with Musical Direction by Alex Rybeck, Bass Accompaniment from Ray Kiddain, and Dance Supervision by Yvonne Marceau, the delicious production (one really can't call it a concert despite lack of dialogue) was fluid, polished, and imaginative in its use of the room. From leads to the chorus, voices were strong, commitment thorough. In the audience, Tommy Tune must've had a helluva time. We did. (more...)

Titanic the Musical opened yesterday afternoon in Toronto, and was met by thunderous applause and a standing ovation following the performance. The musical, which opened in 1997 on Broadway and pre-dates the James Cameron film went on to win five Tony Awards including 'Best Musical' - but still closed at a significant financial loss on Broadway and was negatively received by critics. After his critically acclaimed and sold-out concert honoring composer Maury Yeston, singer/songwriter Tim Realbuto (Ghostlight; Wunderkind) returns to the concert stage to honor more of his favorite composers with 'Tim Realbuto: Live In Living Color', an evening celebrating the songwriting duo of Marc Shamian and Scott Wittman, who are responsible for hits such as Hairspray and Catch Me If You Can. The June 9th concert event will take place at 7:00 PM at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street, NYC) and promises to feature Realbuto's interpretation of many of Shaiman and Wittman's biggest hits. Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston will open its 47th consecutive summer season with the Broadway favorite, Guys and Dolls, from June 11-21, 2015 at the Robinson Theatre (617 Lexington St. Waltham, MA, 02452). Set in Damon Runyon's jubilant, shimmering New York City, this Tony Award-winning musical about gangsters, showgirls, and mission workers stars Olivier Award nominee Brent Barrett as Sky Masterson (Broadway's Chicago, PBS's Kiss Me, Kate) and opera singer Mara Bonde as Sarah Brown (The Boston Pops). Broadway veteran David Hugo (LES MISERABLES) returns to direct Frank Loesser's romantic comedy that demonstrates the great lengths to which a guy will go when he truly falls in love with a 'doll.' Reagle Music Theatre is the long-running regional theater company known for casting Broadway stars alongside regional talent. Das Landestheater Linz hat den Spielplan fur die Saison 2015/2016 vorgestellt. Das Programm umfasst neben der Wiederaufnahme des kurzlich angelaufenen 'The Who's Tommy', vier Musicalpremieren. Den Anfang macht im Oktober der Klassiker SINGIN' IN THE RAIN im Musiktheater Volksgarten, gefolgt von HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH im Blackbox Theater. Im neuen Jahr ist dann im Schauspielhaus Promenade zum ersten Mal in ÷sterreich GRAND HOTEL zu erleben. Den Abschluss macht dann das Sondheim Erfolgsmusical INTO THE WOODS - AB IN DEN WALD, das ab April im Musiktheater Volksgarten zu sehen sein wird. (more...)

Today in 1997, Titanic opened at the Lunt-Fonatnne Theatre, where it ran for 804 performances. Titanic is a musical with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Peter Stone that won five Tony Awards including the award for Best Musical. Titanic is set on the ocean liner RMS Titanic which sank on its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912. Directed by Richard Jones with choreography by Lynne Taylor-Corbett, the cast included John Cunningham, David Garrison, Larry Keith, Alma Cuervo, Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, and Brian d'Arcy James.
