Celebrating her 15th solo appearance at Carnegie Hall, classical pianist Katya Grineva presents an evening of holiday music and virtuoso romantic masterpieces for one night only, Saturday, December 26th at 8:00 p.m. The Russian native, whose dream it was to one day play at the iconic venue, is the first woman to perform as a soloist at Carnegie this many times. Known for her deep connetion to the Romantics, Katya mixes staples by Mozart and Chopin with various seasonal chestnuts. On Saturday, December 19 at 4 pm, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents Holiday POPS! Wonderlands featuring festive music sparked by imaginative visions of distant lands. Conducted by John Devlin, concert highlights include works by Vaughan-Williams, Tchaikovsky, Humperdinck, and Sibelius. The Princeton High School Choir performs Handel's Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah and arrangements of "I Saw Three Ships" and "Twelve Days of Christmas," accompanied by the orchestra. The traditional sing-along, an arrangement of seasonal favorites by Leroy Anderson, includes the addition of young violinists of El Sistema-Trenton playing alongside PSO professionals. The student musicians also perform David Rimelis' "Three Little Birds/Ode to Joy." (more...)

The CSO's Holiday Pops, an annual tradition in Columbus since 1983, was conceived by chorus master and conductor Ronald Jenkins who has also led all of its 96 performances. In 2015, Jenkins, the musicians of the Columbus Symphony, and vocalists of the Columbus Symphony Chorus, will be joined by the Columbus Children's Choir, dancers Justin Gibbs and Joanie Evans, children from BalletMet, narrator Steven Crawford, and of course, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, featuring the talents of more than 300 performers in this heartwarming holiday spectacular. Alan Gilbert -- recently recognized with a Foreign Policy Association Medal for his extraordinary commitment to cultural diplomacy -- completes his sixth season at the helm of the New York Philharmonic with this week's U.S. premiere of director Côme de Bellescize's staging of Joan of Arc at the Stake, which stars Academy Award-winner Marion Cotillard (June 10–13). Next, he and the orchestra toast the summer with a trio of free concerts under the stars to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Philharmonic's historic Concerts in the Parks (June 17–24), using the same program as the centerpiece of their upcoming residencies at Colorado's Bravo! Vail (July 24–31), Santa Barbara's Music Academy of the West (Aug 1–8), and in Shanghai, China (July 4–10). Gilbert also makes his Mostly Mozart debut, leading the American stage premiere of George Benjamin's Written on Skin (Aug 11–15), and crowns an artistic residency at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival with an account of Messiaen's epic and otherworldly Des canyons aux étoiles (Aug 23).
