For the CSO's 2014 Holiday Pops, chorus master and conductor Ronald Jenkins, who conceived the program in 1983 and has since conducted all 93 performances, has selected a program of seasonal favorites infused with seven all-new pieces to be performed by more than 250 musicians, vocalists, and dancers. Jenkins and the musicians of the CSO will be joined by the Columbus Symphony Chorus, Columbus Children's Choir, dancers Justin Gibbs and Joanie Evans, children from BalletMet, narrator Steven Crawford, and of course, Mr. and Mrs. Claus for a heartwarming holiday spectacular and beloved annual Columbus tradition. The New York Philharmonic's 2014 holiday season presents classic masterpieces and seasonal favorites, the return of a former Philharmonic principal and debuts, and continuing and new traditions. This year's schedule includes the annual Holiday Brass concert, this time with former Principal Trumpet Philip Smith returning to host and conduct the complete New York Philharmonic Brass and Percussion sections; Handel's Messiah, led by Baroque specialist Gary Thor Wedow; the first-annual Holidays with the Philharmonic, led by Constantine Kitsopoulos and featuring a carol sing-along and The Night Before Christmas, narrated by Academy Award winner and New York Philharmonic Board Member Whoopi Goldberg (December 19) and humorist, journalist, and actor Mo Rocca (December 20), both in their Philharmonic debuts; and New Year's Eve: A Gershwin Celebration led by Bramwell Tovey and featuring vocalists Dianne Reeves, in her Philharmonic debut, and Norm Lewis, returning after his debut in the Philharmonic's production of Show Boat. The New Year's Eve concert will be telecast live nationally on Live From Lincoln Center on PBS stations. (more...)

BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, is opening the 175th Erie County Fair with an 'American Voices' concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6. Many opportunities for photo and video exist during this day. The orchestra will rehearse for this concert from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fair's Grandstand on August 6. Individual musicians will be available for appearances until 7 p.m. Please contact Kate Jenkins if you are interested in speaking with a musician. The concert begins at 8 p.m. at the Grandstand. It features music by Aaron Copland, Duke Ellington and Leroy Anderson, and concludes with a fireworks show. Contact Holly Smyczynski for site-related assistance. Photographers and videographers are welcome to shoot up to 30 minutes total during rehearsal and during the concert. Video used may represent up to a three-minute excerpt of one work or up to five minutes of multiple works. Photographers are asked to refrain from using flash at the evening concert. As Buffalo's cultural ambassador, the Grammy Award-winning Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under the leadership of music director JoAnn Falletta presents more than 100 concerts each year. Since 1940, the orchestra's home has been Kleinhans Music Hall, a National Historic Landmark with a reputation as one of the finest concert halls in the United States. During the tenure of JoAnn Falletta, the BPO has rekindled its history of radio broadcasts and recordings, including the release of 29 new recordings on the Naxos and Beau Fleuve labels.
