To be utterly candid, I had never heard of Michael Mott until the review copy of Broadway Records WHERE THE SKY ENDS: THE SONGS OF MICHAEL MOTT landed in my mailbox. I read over the press release, glanced over the track listing, and placed the album into my stereo. The tuneful melodies that breezed out of the speakers instantly enchanted me, and the seasoned musical theatre vocals that accompanied them left me in awe. (more...)

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) hosted the 4th-Annual GenR Summer Party last night at David Burke Garden at The James Hotel in New York City. Laura Osnes joined TV Food Personality Eden Grinshpan, Chef KPE and actors Pasha Pellosie, Eric West and Sheetal Sheth to help raise funds and highlight the IRC's programs, both domestic and international, which empower refugees and people who have been displaced by conflict, political oppression, religious persecution or natural disaster and help them to rebuild their lives. Fontana spoke of his start in school plays all the way to his Broadway career. The Shapiro Sisters, 11-year old Milly Shapiro (Matilda, Original Broadway Cast of Matilda The Musical) and older sister, 14-year-old Abigail Shapiro (Cindy Lou Who, How The Grinch Stole Christmas), recorded the album live at the famed 54 BELOW over a series of three performances this past May and June. This week's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE had a very Broadway feel to it with Josh Bergasse, the choreographer of the upcoming ON THE TOWN revival, staging a Top-20 routine to the show's anthem 'New York, New York' (the one by Bernstein, Comden, and Green, not Kander and Ebb). As we learned last week, this season's winner will earn a spot in the musical's ensemble. While some people, including @Actor_Friend, don't like this idea, remember, the last network show to give away roles on Broadway brought us Laura Osnes, so let's reserve judgment, just in case a reality show brings us more Broadway royalty this time.
