Review: SIX at Orpheum Theatre
by Steve Murray
- Feb 23, 2023
What did our critic think of SIX at Orpheum Theatre? Six wives, six women, six individual stories all bonded by marriage to Henry VIII. Playwrights Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss explore each woman from their perspectives through a boisterous musical score mirroring easily recognizable contemporary pop and R&B vocalists. Not so much a history lesson as a bonding sisterhood tome, SIX is a high-powered, crowd-pleasing rock musical worthy of its many awards including Tony Award. for Best Original Score (Music and Lyrics).

Review: SIX! THE MUSICAL SPARKLES AND DAZZLES at Straz Center For The Performing Arts
by Drew Eberhard
- Nov 2, 2022
On Tuesday evening a packed house at Carol Morsani Hall at Tampa, Florida's Straz Center for the Performing Arts sat waiting in anticipation for the Broadway Season Opener SIX to begin. I myself have stayed relatively neutral to the show, and going in blind only hearing one or two songs, I was eagerly awaiting the performance.
As the curtain speech began anticipation grew stronger, and it was announced,' the show would begin in just under SIX minutes.'
With book, music, and lyrics by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX is a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII. The show is performed in a pop concert style, with each performer singing about her time with Henry and battling it out to see who suffered more, and can become the lead singer of the group. Therefore not making the plot overly complicated, SIX is a high-energy spectacle that is a good time from start to finish.

Review: SIX at National Theatre
by David Friscic
- Jul 17, 2022
Misogyny and patriarchy in Tudor history (Tudor Dynasty) in all its perfidy, comes to life as the six wives of Henry VIII come to musical life ---bloodied but unbowed in the much-ballyhooed musical SIX now playing at the National Theatre. Two university students, Toby Marlow, and Lucy Moss conceived the intriguing book, music and lyrics for this multi-layered musical that speaks to any demographic. The music and lyrics jump out at you with snappy, rollicking, cutting-edge songs that are given “diva-esque” renditions by the six actresses playing the roles of the wives of Henry VIII. The stage at the National explodes in a riot of music, “out of the stratosphere” energy, and vibrant, pulsating lights and costumes---all compressed within eighty high-energy minutes.
