Recovered Voices 2021: Schulhoff and More, an original multimedia series featuring James Conlon, premieres on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

This evening our online show is Los Angeles Opera’s La Traviata from 2006 with: Renée Fleming, Rolando Villazón, Renato Bruson, Suzanna Guzmán, Anna Akhimova, Daniel Montenegro, Philip Kraus, James Creswell, Sal Malaki, and Mark Kelley. James Conlon conducts the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. The stage director is Marta Domingo. Brian Large directs it for TV.

Composer, conductor, and current Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony, Esa-Pekka Salonen returns to The Soraya’s podium for the third time on Saturday, November 13 at 8pm as he conducts the Colburn Orchestra, the flagship orchestra of the Colburn School’s Conservatory of Music, which has gained international acclaim for producing the next generation of world-class musicians.

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Pops have announced several updates to the 2021/22 schedule. LA Opera has opened their 35th season with Verdi's IL TROVATORE. Conducted by James Conlon and directed by Francisco Negrín, live performances at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion through October 10th will be supplemented by two live streams October 3rd and 6th. IL TROVATORE stars Guanqun Yu in the role of Leonora. Had the chance to query Guanqun on her vocal regimen and her lightbulb moment when she realized she wanted a career singing opera.

For the first time since 2013, the music of Richard Wagner returns to LA Opera on October 18, 2021, with a masterpiece of 19th-century German Romantic opera, Tannhäuser.

LA Opera opens its 2021/22 season on September 18, 2021, with Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore, marking its official return to fully staged productions for in-person audiences for the first time since March 8, 2020. A new vaccination policy, along with a new, state-of-the-art air filtration system and enhanced cleaning protocols, will ensure the best and safest possible experience for audiences, artists and staff, the company's top priority.

On the Los Angeles Opera website, Igor Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex is available to stream now thru July 18th. Stravinsky based his opera Oedipus Rex on the ancient Greek tragedy by Sophocles. Oedipus Rex, is staged with minimal movement, which works well with COVID restrictions. A narrator describes the action in English.

The Met has announced a lineup of operas by Giacomo Puccini for its 70th week of Nightly Met Opera Streams, the company’s ongoing series of encore Live in HD presentations and classic telecasts streamed on its website during the Covid-19 closure.

On Saturday, we see Los Angeles Opera’s online stream of Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex. Stravinsky based Oedipus on Sophocles’ Greek tragedy and his 1927 opera is a highly stylized, ritualistic work. A narrator describes the action throughout the course of the opera. Although the opera is in Latin, narration is spoken in the language of the audience.

Beginning today at 5pm PT, LA Opera presents a new streaming presentation of Igor Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex, conducted by James Conlon, the company's Richard Seaver Music Director, and starring tenor Russell Thomas, the company's Artist in Residence, in the title role.
