Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of 2015 Pulitzer Prize finalist Marjorie Prime, a new play by Jordan Harrison (Maple and Vine, Doris to Darlene at PH; Amazons and Their Men; Kid-Simple; 'Orange is the New Black'). Commissioned by Playwrights Horizons and directed by Obie Award winner Anne Kauffman (Detroit, Maple and Vine, Your Mother's Copy of the Kama Sutra at PH; Belleville; This Wide Night; The Thugs), the play is the third production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season. The first preview is tonight, November 20 at 8PM at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The production has an Opening Night set for Monday, December 14 and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, January 3. (more...)

The Public Theater has announced a one-week extension for the critically acclaimed FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE, a world premiere musical by Michael John LaChiusa, BroadwayWorld has confirmed. Directed by Kirsten Sanderson, FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE began previews on Tuesday, October 6 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, November 15. It will now run an additional week through Sunday, November 22. Ghostlight Records recently recorded the original cast recording of FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE to be released later this season. (more...)

Sundance Institute today announced the projects and artists participating in its two Fall artist development programs: the Alumni Writers Studio at Flying Point in Water Mill, NY, which ran October 4-11, as well as the two-week Theatre Lab for musical theatre, ensemble-generated projects and solo work at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), taking place November 8-22. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the initiatives are among the 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content. In November, Two Muses Theatre will present the wondrous musical: The Light in the Piazza. (Book by Craig Lucas. Music and Lyrics by Adam Guettel.)  The Light in the Piazza, winner of many Tony Awards, is as simple and complicated as its ineffable subject--love. When Clara falls for a charming young Italian man  in a Florentine piazza, her mother must decide whether or not she will reveal truths about her daughter that could destroy the romance. The show will be performed on weekends, opening on November 6 and closing on November 22. The Light in the Piazza is directed by Joe Bailey, Artistic Director of The Ringwald Theatre in Ferndale, with musical direction by Jeff Bobick. (more...)
