The Harris Theater for Music and Dance announced today a five?year creative partnership with internationally renowned Kronos Quartet and the Kronos Performing Arts Organization. This partnership, part of Kronos Quartet's Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire, includes the commissioning of 50 new works, 10 per year over five years. The Theater has named the Music Institute of Chicago as the primary education partner for this project. Fifty for the Future forms a central component of Carnegie Hall's 125th Anniversary Season, to be celebrated with the creation of 125 new works. (more...)

Paper Mill Playhouse has announced the full cast for its production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (which first played to rave reviews in La Jolla). Inspired by the classic Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame has a book by Peter Parnell, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is directed by Scott Schwartz and choreographed by Chase Brock. (more...)

Carnegie Hall presents the esteemed pianist Richard Goode in four concerts this winter and spring, beginning with two programs of chamber music in Zankel Hall, featuring performances with young musicians mentored by Mr. Goode at the Marlboro Music Festival. On Sunday, February 22 at 3:00 p.m., Mr. Goode is joined by soprano Sarah Shafer, violinist Itamar Zorman, violist Kyle Armbrust, and cellist Brook Speltz for a program to include Brahms's Piano Quartet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 26 and Schumann's Piano Trio No. 2 in F Major, Op. 80. Pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute joins Mr. Goode, Mr. Zorman, Mr. Armbrust, and Ms. Speltz on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. for an all-French program with works by Debussy, Faure, and Ravel. (more...)

Orange County, Calif.—Jan. 28, 2015—Pacific Symphony, in partnership with Bowers Museum, presents “A Feast for the Senses,” an enchanting evening of Chinese music, dining and discovery surrounding the Bowers' current special exhibition, “China's Lost Civilization: The Mystery of Sanxingdui.” An upscale and one-of-a-kind experience, guests are treated to a fusion of music and history as Symphony musicians are interwoven between mysterious artifacts, performing music curated by Chinese American composer Huang Ruo and featuring world-renowned pipa player Zhou Yi. The ancient jades, cast bronzes and life-size statues of the exhibition were found in Sanxingdui and date to about 1200 B.C. The “Lost Civilization” has been termed “the ninth wonder of the world” and is claimed by scholars to be one of the greatest archaeological finds ever unearthed. After seeing the museum's collections and enjoying a reception of music and art, guests enter the John. M. Lee Court to hear a performance of music by Huang Ro, as well as taste an authentic Sichuan Province-inspired dinner and dessert presented by Bowers' award-winning restaurant, Tangata. This event is sponsored by The James Irvine Foundation as part of its New California Arts Fund initiative. (more...)

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Music Director Jeffrey Kahane serves as musical 'tour guide' for LACO's annual 'Discover' program, which this season features a special one-night-only exploration of Mozart's incomparable and deeply moving Requiem in D minor with special guests Alison King, soprano; Emily Fons, alto; Nicholas Phan, tenor; Aubrey Allicock, bass; and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, on Thursday, February 19, 2015, 8 pm, at Pasadena's Ambassador Auditorium. The evening is designed to lead patrons to a greater understanding of Mozart's musical capstone and to appreciate the work with 'new ears.' Kahane, lauded for his 'eloquence' (The New York Times), explores a different work each year for LACO's annual Discover concert. According to LA Opening Nights, 'Some conductors are born educators, and Jeffrey Kahane is one of them.'
