The cast of the Tony Award-winning musical 'Hadestown' recently made a visit to Edge at Hudson Yards, the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere. Tony Award winner Lillias White, who plays Hermes – the first woman to do so – messenger of the gods, has extended her run in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

Finding new ways to tell age old stories is as old as time.  Greek and Roman mythology, passion plays and Shakespearean tales are often updated or transformed from play to musical to opera or  even ballet.  Most recently the Broadway stage has found a new re-telling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth in the form of the TONY Award winning  HADESTOWN and the tour is playing at Shea's Buffalo through this Sunday.

Hadestown, the winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best New Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, will come to Schenectady in two weeks.

What did our critic think of HADESTOWN at CONNOR PALACE (Cleveland)? When HADESTOWN, opened on Broadway on April 17, 2019, it was met with critical acclaim. Reviews contained such terms as 'inventive,' 'gorgeous, 'hypnotic,' 'high energy,' 'utterly fabulous' and 'immersive.' The critics went gaga over the quality of the singing, the scenery, the special effects, the choreography and the fine acting.

The dancing was well choreographed, although, many numbers were very similar, presumably noting the tedium of the underworld. The use of the rotating stage was well executed, and the overall energy was high. In the end, although disappointed by the book and lack of passion between the two main couples, I was glad to have seen it. id our critic think of HADES TOWN at The Overture?
