The Met Museum Presents The Costume Institute's CHINESE WHISPERS: TALES OF THE EAST IN ART, FILM, AND FASHION, 5/7

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that The Costume Institute's spring 2015 exhibition will be Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion, on view from May 7 through August 16, 2015 (preceded on May 4 by The Costume Institute Benefit). Presented in the Museum's Chinese Galleries and Anna Wintour Costume Center, the exhibition will explore how China has fueled the creative imagination for centuries, resulting in layers of cultural translations, re-translations, and mistranslations. In this collaboration between The Costume Institute and the Department of Asian Art, high fashion will be juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, as well as Chinese films to reveal ongoing dialogues between East and West, past and present. The Broadway Experience Wraps Seventh Summer Season

The Broadway Experience returned for a seventh summer program at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center from July 28th - August 10th. With over 20 professional educators from the Broadway community, TBE offered over 75 classes, workshops, lectures, a performance based second week and invited Jonathan Groff as guest speaker. Jonathan spoke about his life on and off the stage, and took the time to answer questions and offer advice and inspiration. He was even kind enough to give an impromptu performance from Disney's recent hit film, Frozen. (more...)

Bang on a Can: Other Primary Structures, a concert featuring Bang on a Can All-Stars Vicky Chow (piano) and David Cossin (percussion) with Dither Quartet guitarists Taylor Levine and James Moore, will take place at the Jewish Museum on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30pm. Astoria, New York, June 18, 2014—Museum of the Moving Image announces its major film series and exhibitions for the summer. Highlights include a new exhibition and accompanying film series exploring the work of the legendary animation director Chuck Jones(opening July 19), films by Gustav Deutsch (July 25–27), See It Big! Hollywood Melodrama (August 2–31), films by Hong Kong producer, director, and actor Patrick Lung Kong, with Lung Kong and Tsui Hark in person (August 15–24), and a complete retrospective of Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien (beginning September 12). Concept, Script, Direction, and Music Composition by Dr. Gowri Ramnarayan. Performance by Akhila Ramnarayan, Sheejith Krishna, Mythili Prakash, Gowri Ramnarayan. Indian classical vocals by Amritha Murali. Recognized as leaders for their virtuosity and originality in their fields, the artists created this production after a year of research in India. Performing to rave reviews in India, the production concludes its six city US tour at the Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall at California State University Northridge today, May 10, 2014.
