Michelle DeYoung will be the mezzo-soprano soloist in the September 11, 2021, performance of Verdi’s Requiem, replacing Elīna Garanča, who is indisposed.  

The curtain call of a recent performance of Tosca at San Francisco Opera ended a little differently than usual! Following the performance, the audience got to watch a real life love story unfold when Soloman Howard (Angelotti) proposed to Ailyn Pérez (Tosca).

Lyric Opera of Chicago has recorded Ruggiero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci on film. Last week, the company announced that registration was open for audiences to secure free links to screen the new Pagliacci made at the Lyric Opera House. Mid afternoon, our tour group meets on the Magic Opera Flying Carpet at Los Angeles Airport (LAX).  We watch LA Opera’s digital short entitled Gallup, or Na'nízhoozhí in Navajo. The scene incorporates the high desert New Mexico landscape and the city famed for Navajo jewelry. Tour members should wear the  biggest and best turquoise they have for the show!

PBS will be offering a new lineup of premiere content to celebrate Latino Heritage Month this September and October. New performances from The Met, Rita Moreno documentary, and The 34th Hispanic Heritage Awards will highlight the schedule.

Wagnerians in Concert features sopranos Christine Goerke and Elza van den Heever, tenor Andreas Schager, and baritone Michael Volle, live from the Hessisches Staatstheater, in Wiesbaden, Germany, on May 8. Three Divas showcases sopranos Ailyn Pérez and Nadine Sierra and mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, live from the Opéra Royal-Château de Versailles, in France, on May 22. Both concerts will be streamed live on the Met's website at 1pm EST/7pm CET, and will then be available on demand for 14 days.
