The 81st annual Grant Park Music Festival - the nation's only free, summer-long outdoor classical music series of its kind - continues into July with the theatrical A Sondheim Celebration, Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11, 8:00 p.m. in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion of Millennium Park. Audiences are invited to enjoy a little night music and celebrate the award-winning master of the musical in A Sondheim Celebration led by Broadway conductor and long-time Sondheim collaborator Paul Gemignani, with Illinois native and Broadway veteran Elizabeth Stanley (On the Town), Broadway tenor Alexander Gemignani (Les Miserables) and the Grant Park Orchestra with guest pianist Tedd Firth performing Stephen Sondheim favorites, including selections from Sweeney Todd, Company, Into the Woods and the world premiere of A Little Night Music symphonic suite. Ten pianists have been chosen to advance to the Semifinals of Canada's Honens Piano Competition. The musicians (ages 22 to 30) come from six countries: Italy, Russia, South Korea, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States. One pianist will be named the Honens Prize Laureate and win the world's largest award of its kind-$100,000 (CAN) and an artist development program valued at a half million dollars. The Semifinals and Finals of the Honens Piano Competition take place during the 2015 Honens Festival & Piano Competition in Calgary, September 3 to 12. (more...)

San Francisco, CA, June 17, 2015 – New and recent works by PUSH Dance Company and leading mid-career and emerging dance artists from the Bay Area and beyond will be featured during PUSHfest 2015, presented by PUSH Dance Company, a San Francisco-based contemporary dance company, founded by artistic Director Raissa Simpson. PUSHfest is a mixed-genre dance festival that showcases the work of  mid-career and emerging choreographers alongside the PUSH Company at San Francisco's ODC Theater (3153 17th Street) on September 18-20, 2015. Program A will be performed on Friday, September 18, at 8pm and Sunday, September 20, at 4pm. Mildred's Umbrella Theatre Company has been selected for an NEA Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for our upcoming production of the Houston Premiere of THE DROWNING GIRLS by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, Daniela Vlaskalic.  In addition, the company has received a Brown Foundation Discretionary Fund Grant for operations in our upcoming season.
