Thommie Walsh was a Tony Award-winning Broadway performer, choreographer, and director. Born on November 6, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, Walsh began his career as a dancer in the Broadway production of "Seesaw" in 1973.
Walsh quickly became a sought-after dancer and choreographer, working on numerous Broadway productions throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He received his first Tony Award nomination in 1978 for his choreography in "A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine." He went on to receive two more nominations for his choreography in "My One and Only" and "The Will Rogers Follies."
In addition to his work as a choreographer, Walsh also performed on Broadway in numerous productions, including "A Chorus Line," "Pippin," and "My One and Only." He won a Tony Award in 1986 for his performance in "A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine."
Walsh's work extended beyond Broadway to television and film. He choreographed the dance sequences in the 1985 film "A Chorus Line" and worked on the television series "The Tracey Ullman Show" and "The Nanny."
In the 1990s, Walsh transitioned to directing, helming productions of "The Will Rogers Follies" and "Grease" on Broadway. He also directed productions of "My One and Only" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" on national tours.
Despite his success, Walsh faced personal struggles throughout his life. He battled addiction and was open about his struggles with HIV/AIDS. He passed away on June 16, 2007, at the age of 56.
